Time perhaps to nudge the artwork process for the upcoming 1248 milieu book.

Do we want artwork to be:

Light - something in the vein of GURPS Traveller products. One that shows scenes of optimism.

Dark - something that gives hope but that the struggle to get there will be long and hard.

Nominations for artists will also be taken that personify the contribution (pls cite name or at least source).

I loved voting "yes or no" for whether I want previous artwork or Liz Danforth's! Why? Because my favorite episode of Perry Mason (radio, not TV) has him asking "Answer the question with a simple yes or no. What were your feelings toward the murdered man?"

(Edited because I forgot to check "Email Notification" -- Gee, I wish that was an option in our profile, so I could just have it as the default.)

I would ideally like a mixture of light and dark art themes.
Light for the "hope for the future" and "new polities rising from the ashes".
Dark for the antagonists and struggles along the way to a brighter future.

Personally, I would want to see a Dark milieu very much akin to Twilight 2000 with lots of wrecked worlds but as well as individuals struggling to make it back to the Stars.

This is best summed up with Liz Danforth's work (minus the USA badges on the uniform and their replacement with different Rebellion era faction) and also the cover of the Rebellion sourcebook...would be perfect for this sourcebook save this time, give the piece its full glory by having miminal lettering.

I think the art should follow a progression, starting dark at the beginning of the book and moving steadily toward the light as the end of the book approaches. It's more of a dramatic thing than anything else, a subtle (or perhaps subliminal) reflection of the mood of the milieu, as hope emerges from despair.

Just a thought, anyway,
Flynn

Word of clarification: I am greedy, I am a collector/hoarder etc. I like the existing art work but want new additions to my traveller collection. Also agree with the starting out dark and progressing to light as hope blossoms.

I am a very big fan of new artwork, as well but in terms of trying to bring in the newbie factor. Especially, in times like these wouldn't something like the Rebellion Sourcebook bring in more players, especially combined with the dark/light artwork progression that we all seem to be fond of:

As we have ask what artwork will get pick people to pick up this game and say: "Cool! I want to know the story behind this book..."

There was quite enough darkness already. I'd prefer a bit lighter touch this time around.

As for artists, they'd damn sure better get Jessie to do the ships... :>

I like Jessie's work, but he may be bound by some sort of non-competition clause for his work with GT such that he can't do work for QLI. We don't really know.

If he isn't, though, I think it'd be nice to see his work in a T20 product.
