This is really nice stuff. Good pictures cool equipment is as much a selling point as the pretty cover.

Cool

I especially like the Mercenary cruiser picture, very nice!

Since I forgot to mention it, I'll do so now. That material so far (except for the covers) are the work of Bryan Gibson.

All I ask is that if you use it on a website, please post a notice that we own the copyright to the material. (and maybe a link to us?)

I just looked at some of the recent artwork...nice...and I do like the Merc Cruiser...may get flamed for this, but I never liked the Broadsword class, looked too much like a merchant ship to me, THIS ship looks like a merc cruiser...might even end up replacing my favorite two ships, based on looks, those two being the Gazelle Class close escort (when done with the right artwork) and the Vargr Corsair...okay, an honorable mention to the good ol'Azhanti High Lightning class Fronteir Cruisers also. Anyway...nice ships, nice artwork in general, the CES and tailored vacc suit look close to what I've always pictured them to look like, BTW.

Cleon the III, you know...the kind of crazy one...hee...hee...

P.S. Oh, to ask, what max TL, of the Imperium are we looking at for T20? I always presumed that the Imperium would either a) Be at 14, but hit 15 within the next 20 to 50 years around year 1000, or b) Have SOME worlds at TL 15, but 90 to 95% of their equipment is still at TL 14...somewhat how I picture the Zhodani at around year 1100 to 1120 (i.e the CT/Mt/Gt setting)...well, picture them TL wise. Anyway...any clues as to the Imperium's TL in T20 would be nice, if possible to give out.

And...do any ships carry over? Looks like the Scout/Courier is a precursor to the CT one, slightly different ship, and this Merc cruiser is radically different from the CT Broadsword, but some designs I always assumed to be from really old deckplans...the "Fat Trader" I think I once read was even an OLD first Imperium Vilani design..but memory might be wrong on that...anyway, would be nice to see such.

General TL is 14, with TL15 just beginning to be introduced into military and high level government projects.

Our take on ship designs for T20 are three-fold:

1) This is about 100 years (or more) earlier than CT, MT, etc. Designs will radically change in some cases over these spans of time.

2) Different regions of space will design ships differently. Thus what you see in the Spinward Marches may be radically different from what you find in the Ley Sector. The local influences will tend to foster these differences.

3) Some designs are so basically fundamental, practicle, or engrained as to change little over time. My bet is that the Scout/Courier has had pretty much the same look/design since the IISS was the Sylean Scout Service.

1&2 are great ideas, especially when different stellar geography might need greater jump capacity. Plus, we need to see more different types of ships. That was my major disappointment with TNE. One would think the collapse of civilization would engender more variance in design but, I guess if works don't fix it.

3. However, if you look at T4, we get really different ship designs.

I would also be more inclined to think that different cultures could possably come up with different means to the stars. Is the jump-drive the only way to travel faster than light? I can see the Imperium having something to the effect of a ban on other technologies ("we invented this so it must be best"), but what about areas outside the Imperium's sphere of influence?

It might make a good scenario to have some scientists develope something that works like the (in)fameous warp drive of Star Trek or something that uses pseudo-wormholes. The research is, of course, top secret which means the adventurers are bound to stumble across it...

There IS one other technology extant in the OTU: the "Jump Gate" system of the anchients. it actually is not a gate from a to b, but a gate to a pocket universe, which is small (measure in ldays) across; the ends are not of need jump distance apart; details on it are very sketchy. (See Secret of the Anchients for what few details exist.) all races stumble upon the jump drive in one way or another. Even the anchients do not have better than J6. Certain ships seem to be trapped in j-space, but the fundamental framework of the OTU is that Jump and pocket universe access are the ONLY VIABLE FTL.

TNE included others only for non-otu campaigns.

Look for one of the PDFs we are planning to cover similar material. None of it will be used in the OTU, but we think it should be made available to those who are interested in running a different setting with different technology.
