Autodocs & Regeneration

Two things here.

1) Can an autodoc perform regeneration (it can do reanimation it seems though there's that odd TL14/no DC listing on p. 217 of the THB) and if it can at what DC (is it just at the regular Fort DC10 check)? Is there any other eqipment in T20 (or other Traveller versions for that matter) that can perform regen*? I assume any TL13 facility would have regen capability.

2)In general it seems like a Autodoc DC modifier would have been better and easier. -5 it looks like. Also the Autodoc listing has Minor Sugery, which isn't listed in the Medical Care chart on the same page. It is however listed on the T/Medical chart but the DC for Routine Surgery doesn't match up. >.<

* in general I'm also wondering how regen compares in other version of Traveller but not finding much on it

Regeneration of lost limbs is possible at TL9 according to the expanded TL chart in MT. Could an autodoc do this quickly enough to get a character back into the action? Probably not would be my answer - it takes weeks to regenerate a lost limb. But given enough time...
So are there any other options?

Replacement seems to be the way to go.

At TL13 the solution to a lost limb would be cloned body parts (I'm not sure how long this would take either, but I'd guess at weeks or months).

So, for mercs and the like, replacement body parts could be cloned during downtime and kept in cold storage until required. The autodoc simply has to attach the new limb rather than wait to regenerate or clone a replacement.

At TL15 pseudobiological prosthetics are available, it may be faster for an autodoc to attach one of these rather than wait for a cloned limb replacement or for regeneration. The latter can always be done at a more convenient time.

There are some Traveller's Digest articles on this topic, I'll go and dig them out.

I think of an autodoc as a trauma/disease/toxin fixer. IMTU it is not a portable biotechnology center that can regen limbs, do RNA implants, etc.
