Avenger Does Foreven

Since the first products have gone to layout, it might be time to make an announcement.

Avenger Enterprises is about to launch its range of Open License products set in Foreven Sector. We are in the unusual position of being the only publisher (other than Mongoose) permitted to publish OTU materials, but the decision was made some time ago to cease doing so and to move into Foreven Sector.

The first product is the self-contained adventure Research Station Chamax, which is set shortly after the events of Chamax Plague and Horde. You don't need those to play Research Station Chamax, but any excuse to play the two best Traveller adventures again is a good thing.

The second product is Beyond the Marches, an adventure/sourcebook which includes an adventure set just outside Imperial space and provides light background information on Foreven Sector as Avenger Enterprises has imagined it. We have a 'setting bible' (of sorts) in place, and all Avenger Foreven products will be tied into this common vision, but are intended to stand alone as far as possible.

In completely unrelated news, I have an official Traveller novel coming out next month. You should maybe buy it.

Any teasers on the possibility that some of the Chamax sleeper-ships have actual Chamaxi sophonts hibernating in them?

Okay, I'll be nice...

We plan a trilogy of adventures:

Research Station Chamax
Chamax Reprise
Chamax Horde

It's possible that the actual people of Chamax might feature in one of them.

What rule set? Mongoose? T5?

I'm not sure I know what Open License actually means, but if it means "systemless", I usually pass on those*.

Would love to see CT supplements, or at least CT conversions provided as a pdf if the product is purchased.

*Why? Because I hate paying someone to do the Ref work for me in the form of an adventure or supplement and still have to put a lot of work into something in the way of CT stats and throws. If a new weapon appears, for example, I don't want to have to figure all the CT Armor/Range/DEX DMs. That's a major reason to buy published adventures and supplements, at least for me. Otherwise, I can adapt and create my own stuff without paying anybody. Not trying to sound like a snot--just giving you some potential customer feedback.

Yes, that's about it.

We'll be using the Mongoose Open License; there are no other options at present.

I'm willing to be convinced that it's worth seeking a license to do T5 materials, but at present there doesn't seem to be the level of interest.

What about for CT? Doesn't interest in CT remain strong?

I can not speak directly for MJD, but in the case of SPICA Publishing and for example the current adventure series that we released, T5 and Mgt are what is available for open license.

If you wanted to produce a product for any of the other Traveller versions, you would need to get a license or direct permission from Marc.

CT needs a special and specific license. Ours expired in 2008, and was not renewed because FFE agreed with Mongoose that all non-Mongoose licenses other than SJG would sunset.

So we can't publish for CT no matter what level of interest there may be.

Ah. It doesn't look like a lot of stuff for MGT coming out of Mongoose these days.

Having played both CT and MgT enough to like both, what difference would there be from an "Adventure" perspective?
I can't think of much that would be different beyond a few skill cascades that might need to be collapsed back down into simple 'Engineering' skill.

As a big CT fan, I can say that everything that I have ever seen from MJD and Avenger has been CT-friendly ... as far back as the T20 releases and right on through every release for Mongoose Traveller that I have had the priveledge to work on. I see no reason to expect MJD to suddenly change his writing style and vision for what Traveller is all about.

So while a product with "Classic Traveller Compatible" in giant letters across a LBB-like cover is not on the horizon, I would suggest giving at least one Avenger product a try. As one CT fanboy to another, I think you will like what you see.

Sorry, I have to disagree, there are things coming out with MgT as the core.

Through the Veil (part 1 of a trilogy of What are Friends for) is MgT orientated. But with MJD's skillful writting, it can easily be used with any Traveller core rules.

I like a good portion of T5 material but honestly, I think I would rather at this time produce MgT orientated material.

Have you asked for any pointers from Bill Keith? Some insights or background that he had for the original adventures, but held back?
