awarded baronies

so, on receiving my copy of the ct cd-rom I find I have been awarded the barony of gushemege/gudak, located here. excellent job on the tmap, I do appreciate the ready observation that dagudashaag/UPAG (and how) is immediately adjacent. so, I'm wondering -

does anyone play any games in this region?

is tmap data official?

I see write-ups for this planet/area in the zhodani base website, somewhat extensive and definitive, are these official?

if not, are there any official write-ups for this world/subsector/"lancian cultural region"?

how official is the associated planetary graphic? and what is that, terra nova or something else?

the planetary data lists no moons. is this simply left to the referee?

etc.

Flykiller,

As often as you post, is this your first awarded Nobility card?

As far as I know, Travellermap is approved/official and all the planetary bodies are defined (including moons). As is, I believe, the Wiki.

If I am incorrect, I am absolutely sure that at least Aramis will correct me.

Most of TMap is official; any of it which was vetted by DonM is. I don't know which sectors are on that list.

yes ....

"most"! that's a lot to vet.

can't help but notice that sadetha has zero atmo but 4 hydro. this would seem to warrant some kind of explanation or comment, but there is none.

Wow…all I got was a CD.

well there's an awful lot on the cd, so don't feel short-changed.

Should have the IC tradecode...

Gushemege is a little under populated for aliens, but Dagudashaag has about two bumper crops worth. Dag probably got a fair bit of play while the Signal GK newsletter was ongoing, but I have no idea if it gets much play these days.

The Lancian Cultural Region is described in Signal GK fanzine, but was on the official maps in MegaTrav. Since all the aliens from the fanzine are on Traveller Map, the Lancian writeup is a good bet to be at least mostly accepted as official. Some of the timeline for that area is a bit off, though if you aren't playing in the dawn of Vilani jump exploration it won't affect you.

Updated in the Roll of the Imperial College of Arms

I had no idea there was such a thing. uh ... thank you.

I was thinking of doing a write-up, and if I do I'll need to know what the "Lancian Cultural Region" is, so is there any way to find out? (ah, just read the traveller wiki, the lancians appear to be undefined?) but if no-one plays there then I need to finish other things.

This archive might help ... and then there is some info on the Wiki as well; as a matter of fact, if you'd like, expand that write up so that everyone can take a look.

thanks, and whatever I do I'll post it here first for review/chewToy.

I'm still hoping to get ahold of the travellermap.com planetary graphic of gushemege/gudak, preferably a 400x400 pixel version. could someone please point me in the right direction, or shall I just make my own?

The Lancian culture has its origins in a minor human race (the Kukhunen), but it has long since moved far beyond that. You don't even have to be a human to be a Lancian anymore.

The Lancians are extensively described in Signal GK #4. Here's a direct link to that issue at the Internet Archive; the Lancian writeup starts at page 4.

The S'mrii, another regional minor race written up in Signal GK, also played a pretty interesting role in the history of the region, going back to even before the Vilani took to the stars. I believe they've been included in the OTU canon as well, but I am not certain. If not, they should be.

excellent, that sets a foundation for what I'm drawing up. thanks.

is it - what, official, cannon, whatever the term is? I look in wikipedia and it's blank, so is it up for grabs? if so the signal gk #4 seems entirely adequate.

The dates and events established by Signal GK were collected in Don's timeline, so they were certainly being evaluated for inclusion.

Having tried to build an early Vilani expansion model, I think that the early dates for the S'mrii/Vilani interactions are a bit too early, but I also think the Signal GK dates were established before DGP's Vilani & Vargr added more definition to those early years.
That said, the events sound good for the most part if given somewhat later dates, as they make the Vilani out as the social and commercial Darwinists we all know so well earlier than even DGP allowed for, and lays the foundation for the later Consolidation Wars to be bitter and retributive, just as wars should be.

The distinctive Lancian composite culture comes much later, but adds some color to a corner of the Imperium that needs some.

probably shouldn't do this, but ...

posted an initial temporary stat map of gudak ...

... just to get a good view of the area. some potentially interesting game-generating features come clear.

1) by my crude trade calculator the trade between gudak/udap would be the second largest in the economic area. of note is the fact that udap is in another sector. jurisdiction issues would seem indicated?

2) gudak would supply .35 of the food in this economic area. ronin/guestworkers?

3) interestingly gudak has the second largest shipyard in its subsector (isi ahto) and thus would have the sub-sector duke's attention (and perhaps a vacation home of his?)

4) udap is a huge money destination and much of this would wind up at gudak.

5) gudak has the highest tech level of any world with a shirtsleeve atmosphere (except mima which is yellow-zoned and unishpiip which is a waterworld) - this would make it a big tourist destination particularly from udap. lasVegas/hawaii/bermuda?

looking for further suggestions/input/observations. oh, and feel free to point out any errors.

Interesting, Fly, interesting.

I like that backwater "hook" to rimward: 0113, 0213, 0214, 0115, and 3214. Several marginal worlds with marginal populations there, all close to some nice trade routes and close to a sector border.

That jump1 trace core-spinward is intriguing too: 3008, 3009, 3110, and 3210. Again, mostly marginal backwaters only this time with a substantial minor race presence.

Looks like you got a nice region there. Plenty of cosmopolitan hi-tech, hi-pop centers very close to plenty of "Triple Lows"; low pop, low tech, and low law.
