CT Only: Basic Character generation and College

JEH

SOC-2
Do you allow characters generated with the Basic Method (Book 1 + Supp 4) to go to college (as per Books 5-7)?

The trade off is starting 4 years older with no extra skills but some bonus EDU and some auto-enlistment options.

Maybe add NOTC, Naval Acadamy, Med School and Flight school too, but the freebies would need some toning down.

I just roll the skills regularly on the Advanced Education Table (Edu 8+) and use that to define his "College Education".
If +1 Int or +1 Edu comes up on the Muster Out table, then I add that result to the "College Skill" during the career write up.

When I want to use Advanced Chargen rules to create a Basic Chargen compatible character ...
1. I roll the character 100% per Advanced Chargen
2. then I filter it by reducing all skills to no higher than the number of terms (so a 3 term character has a maximum of Skill-3)
3. then I reduce the total number of skill levels to 2 per term with all of the leftover skills converted to skill-0.
I find the character is then about as powerful as his basic chargen counterpart.

LBB4+ college options tie into the inflated skill acquisition of those books.

If a player wants to go to college IMTU pre-career they lose a mustering out roll, but gain level 2 in a technical skill of their choice and either raise their Edu to equal their Int or raise their Edu to 8.

Thanks for the replies. So you could infer the characters college education (for background story) from the basic generation based on what skills, stat increaces and career choices they make, rather than fudging in the advanced character rules.
