Beam vs. Pulse

Hello!

In LBB 2 it is stated, that a Pulse Laser does more damage, while a Beam Laser achieves more hits.
In the Space Combat rules a few pages further in the book, no provision or rules are given for how to differentiate between these two types of lasers.

Is there any "oficial" ruling on it, how to implement the difference of the laser types in straight book 2 space combat (like +1 to hit, or -1 on the damage tables, etc.)?

Furthermore, in the rules is stated that lasers can fire at missiles in the Laser Return Fire Phase. What is the to-hit number needed to hit a missile (8+)? And is it automatically destroyed when hit?

Thanks

I couldn't find any further information in book 2. However in Starter Traveller it mentions that Pulse lasers receive -1 to hit, but cause 2 damage rolls instead of one. Hope this helps.

A pulse laser is -1 to hit, but if it does hit it gets to roll twice on the damage table.

This rule was included in the CT Traveller Starter Edition.

For anti-missile:
a roll of 8+ hits and destroys the missile
is the way I've always done it.

Me too.
Other parts from The Traveller Book and Starter Edition would be of use as well, e.g. the example of personal combat helps explain so much about the damage system.

I'd consider re-buying the starter edition if it were to be reprinted, just for the box!!! Mine died many years ago and the rulebooks are taped and stapled together!

I'd buy another for the dice. Seriously, I copied the books and put them in an envelope (the copies are in a binder, and at some point I'll need to recopy a few pages). I like little white (or multicolor, as long as they're that size) dice of which a good number can fit in my hand...

Starter Traveller

First gaming product I ever had. I still have the books and the Shadows/Mithril docs on the prime shelf in the study. Somewhere along the way I lost the dice and lid of the box (which has some of the best traveller artwork - wow to get a print of that).

I haven't played strict CT since MT came out - but I still pull out the books every now and again when I need inspiration.

A new set - in a box ? with the dice? Now that WOULD be something special. I suppose we can but dream (besides I really want FFE to finish the MT CD-ROM - don't get distracted Marc...)

RR.

Hey! Watch it!

This is the Classic Traveller forum, not the MT forum.

Besides, Marc needs to publish the CT Modules Reprint before worrying about anything else.
