Bob Bledsaw terminal illness

Thuban

SOC-9
Bob Bledsaw, one of the founders of Judges Guild, has terminal cancer.

Bob and Judges Guild were early supporters of Traveller, producing setting books, play aides, supplements, and adventures for the game as well as publishing numerous Traveller-related articles in the JG magazines Dungeoneer and Pegasus.

Bob did a lot for the industry. He was certainly a pioneer and an early leader in the game. It's good that he got to see a resurgence in the popularity of some of his classics like the City State and Wilderlands. He was a unique man to work with and I certainly won't forget him. His work touched a lot of lives and brought a lot of enjoyment and fond memories. Can't ask for a much better personal legacy than that I think.

My best wishes to him and his family, and hopes of an easy journey into the Last Great Adventure!

I don't know the man, but I believe this would be appropriate.

To laugh often and much
Win the respect of individual people
And the affection of Children
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
And endure the betrayal of false friends
To appreciate beauty,
To find the best in others
To leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child
A garden patch or a redeemed social condition
To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

This really sucks. Judge's Guild products were a deliriously creative and enthusiastic injection of fun into the hobby at a time when it was dominated by serious people who saw it mostly as a tool for wargame simulation. While some of their products were poor at best, many, many more were interesting and unique, and in turn they inspired much creativity in others.

He will be sorely missed.

I have a copy of City States stashed away in the closet somewhere. I hope something good happens to turn him around.
