Calculating Jump Routes

Actually, ignore that initial batch of routes. I had an axis rotation issue - sector data was valid, but I rotated the axis values, so Deneb was RIMWARD of the Marches, instead of trailing. This caused routes to be WRONG.

Here are the corrected jumps. I grabbed current sector data from Traveller Map, built a new database, and updated what I have for my universe. Several names have changed since I built the original database 10 years ago.

Hope this helps. :)

Wow. I'll take a look at it.

Thanks,

Drakon,

Sorry, I just mentally caught your response about Jewell to Lemish. Here are jump-2 and jump-4 routes, Jewell to Lemish:

Jump-2 Path: Jewell to Lemish took 43 jumps
1106 Jewell -> 1006 Emerald -> 0807 Plaven -> 0909 Gougeste -> 1110 Zircon -> 1311 Tremous Dex -> 1510 871-438 -> 1711 Extolay -> 1910 Regina -> 2110 Yori -> 2309 Yurst -> 2509 Paya -> 2708 Violante -> 2908 Zila -> 3107 Lewis -> 0108 New Ramma -> 0207 Rubrak -> 0406 Pretoria -> 0508 Caladib -> 0709 Hylaxis -> 0910 Gyrfal -> 1111 Zeen -> 1311 Quanah -> 1409 Krisna -> 1608 Gaashushnu Li -> 1808 Antra -> 1910 Uramid -> 2111 Diiski -> 2212 Imlaar -> 2412 Pagamin -> 2512 Niven -> 2713 Wal-ta-ka -> 2913 Atsah -> 3112 Berth -> 0111 Shinku -> 0311 Jubal -> 0510 Pamock -> 0709 Mowanda -> 0910 Drayne -> 1109 Shushaka -> 1309 Naasakiira -> 1408 Xinox -> 1607 Shishkala -> 1808 Lemish

Jump-4 Path: Jewell to Lemish took 20 jumps
1106 Jewell -> 1305 Nakege -> 1705 Efate -> 2106 Pscias -> 2405 Keng -> 2706 Heguz -> 3104 Feneteman -> 0303 Kiiga -> 0701 Taa -> 1001 Kfathvaedal -> 1403 Qi'ire -> 1802 Dzoungdzi -> 2202 Gounuerz -> 2603 Unekh -> 3004 Oluk Dzas -> 0205 Koergfoes -> 0603 Taratun -> 1005 Mount -> 1307 Sebastion -> 1607 Shishkala -> 1808 Lemish

Hope this helps.
Actually the INS courier "Mardun" is being reassigned to Core sector and the missus and I are hitching a ride with them. You have a J6 route? I did a set earlier..

Jewell=>Efate=>Enope=>Paya=>Amaris=>Pretoria=>Waalikii=>Prolam=>Diiski=>Waltaki=>Kiran=>Mowanda=>KAASU=> Depot=>Lemish

Drakon,

I worked at the Blue Cube (Onizuka AFS) for 5 years; still miss that area!

Anyway, I put in jump-6 request to my NavComp, and got the following:

Jump-6 Path: Jewell to Lemish took 12 jumps
1106 Jewell -> 1705 Efate -> 2303 Yorbund -> 2905 Pavanne -> 0303 Kiiga -> 0902 Ghatsokie -> 1502 Mur -> 2105 Torrens -> 2702 Fosfog -> 0102 Tersta -> 0603 Taratun -> 1205 Durima -> 1808 Lemish

No adjustments, this is the shortest route calculated. As a cross-check, I also ran it as Lemish to Jewell, and got the same route reversed.

Time permitting, I may add features to skip amber or red zone, and adjust for wilderness or port-only refueling.

In a prior post I listed some possible adjustments, rather than exclusions. Any thoughts on path modification based on port, water, fuel, zone, and so on would be appreciated.

By the way, there is an early hop-1 ship currently in testing, at Jewell. It has J-4 and H-1 capability, and when using H-1 only, can make approximately 20 hops without refueling. It "borrows" from the jump fuel tanks thanks to transfer pumps.

It can get you there fast:

Jump-10 Path: Jewell to Lemish took 8 jumps
1106 Jewell -> 2106 Pscias -> 3102 Rugbird -> 0902 Ghatsokie -> 1902 Noscius -> 2903 Metare -> 0603 Taratun -> 1607 Shishkala -> 1808 Lemish

8 days, Jewell to Lemish. T5 and hop...ya gotta love it. This changes everything. lol

I'm not aware of any official ships using hop at this time, and I've also not seen any official T5 settings.

IMTU Dalthor Et Magera is a ship designer and engineer, and has designed a ship with an early hop drive, using the T5 rules. I was offering his services with that ship; there are no (known to me, anyway) OTU hop drives out there, though the capability is there.

If you are interested, search for threads by me; one is T5 chargen for Dalthor, and one discussed an attempt at a T5 ship design. I did the ship more to learn the system than anything, although it is close to what I want for a custom-designed and built ship.

Quit hitting me with those negative waves so early in the morning.

:mad: Why don't we just stop calling it Traveller? Because, it just isn't anymore.:nonono:
Probably because that is the name of the game and it is still Traveller. Just like MegaTraveller is Traveller even though that edition had new mechanics and systems and new plot lines and well, you know new stuff that was still Traveller. We call it Traveller because Traveller is a science fiction role playing game system and while it may not be Classic Traveller it is still Traveller.

Just for info purposes, I updated my code to allow route modification by travel zone, as well as fuel type. Wilderness refueling allows no restriction, unrefined with no purifier at class A-D only, refined at class A and B only.

Travel Zone did make a difference on the multi-route jump from Gvadh to Justi.

The original unmodified route is

Jump-4 Path: Plunge to Shuna took 12 jumps
2505 Plunge -> 2907 Seplus -> 3209 R'tinh Kills -> 0311 Omero -> 0711 Rishiin -> 1113 Thogho -> 1515 Luunbu -> 1718 Kirma -> 2020 Shushguum -> 2322 Hefas -> 2624 Shera -> 3025 Shervan -> 0227 Shuna

The new one is affected by an AMBER travel zone at Luunbu, causing a re-route:

Jump-4 Path: Plunge to Shuna took 13 jumps
2505 Plunge -> 2907 Seplus -> 3209 R'tinh Kills -> 0311 Omero -> 0711 Rishiin -> 1113 Thogho -> 1116 Darmagu -> 1417 Astira -> 1819 Dusu -> 2221 Karlum -> 2524 Kakhashedir -> 2925 Kaanpush -> 3126 Renbad -> 0227 Shuna

I also ran the same route using only class A and B starports, and skipping amber and red zones:

Jump-4 Path: Plunge to Shuna took 14 jumps
2505 Plunge -> 2806 Uughrae -> 3208 Dilub Rou -> 0211 Giikur -> 0610 Rakurram -> 1011 Iren -> 1114 Gukhaga -> 1217 Estoff -> 1619 Midku -> 2020 Shushguum -> 2221 Karlum -> 2524 Kakhashedir -> 2925 Kaanpush -> 3128 Xantril -> 0227 Shuna

Thought I'd pass this on, just because. The original code is in Visual Basic 6; I need to learn Perl or something similar, which will make my code much more portable.

BTW, if anybody would like source code or the database and executable, please let me know. I hope to learn Perl and port it myself, but that may be a while. Right now, it does rely on the VB6 library/DLL, which I'd include with the file.

Your Lordship's kind and generous offer is greatly appreciated, however the earlier route, allows one time to study up on the duties and responsibilities expected. Additionally, the route the Mardun is taking goes through Kaasu and Depot, allowing conferences with the Duke of Corridor, (Criston Rehman, I believe) and the Admiral of the Corridor Fleets.

It is felt that the baron and baroness require some prep time. ;)

For what it is worth, I uploaded my Visual Basic 6 jump route calculator to the FILES section. It is what I used to do the route calculations in this thread.

http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=33538

I run it on my Windows 7 machine, but don't recall if I needed to do any fiddling to do so. The files thread has a link to Microsoft site to get the VB6 runtime files, and using "compatability mode" might be required in Vista, Win7, or Win8.

Since most of my jumps will be on military craft I was trying to make sure the plot was to either Scout Bases or Imperial Naval Bases. So the lowest I've had to land on, so far, was 'D'. At least we can get fuel and be on our way.

Some of the systems, at least in the first two routes, are not for luxury. So low importance worlds might be better for the story?

If you've worked out what the purpose of the trip is, that should answer whether low importance worlds are better suited or not.

So what's the reason for the journey?

I was trying to plot the path to the patents I hold to develop the character, reason for holding the patents and a campaign that span those regions.
