Canadian National Ex (GameEx) report

Well, it was not Gencon, but Gaming, horror, comics and SF fans gathered this weekend. On the gaming side, it was very poorly organized.

Therefore, we only had a few people coming out and playing D&D 3e + Vampire/Wraith.

I was to run a Traveller game on Friday but nowhere was there any promotional mention and the result being nobody showed up...

True, Adam was speaking in another room. But, most of the Browncoats in Toronto do not seem to be into Traveller...joining them, I plan to subvert that...bah, haa, haa.

When I talked to the vendors most said that they did not carry Traveller because it is such an old game.

However, there were several highlights getting my photo taken with Erica Durrance (boy, what a babe in person) and Adam Baldwin (man, that man is tall).

Attending a Q&A with Adam**, and another one with: J. Michael Straczynski.

Also, attended a couple of how to GM sessions with Gary Gygax, Ed Greenwood and Robin Laws.

Lurked whilst Gary took a few people on an adventure.

Got autographs of the above three. Not that many booth babes, but plenty fine costumes for the Masquerade.

Goodies included a few soundtracks from Midnight Syndicate & D20 Call of the Cthulhu.

Maybe, I might go next year or maybe go to an only gaming convention...

**Funniest story of the convention was when Adam told the story when on the Firefly episode they had to shoot Nathan left naked on the planet. He was not entirely naked, as he a picture of Joss attached with clear tape to cover his vital parts.

So how was the Question and answer with J. Michael Straczynski? I heard he is workign on something new. I am a big B5 fan after seeign it on dvd and seeign how the story progressed.
Sorry to hear about the traveller game. It is a bit for for me to go;^)

Straczynski has a new couple of shows that deal with the paranormal in the world of today. One that I recall is called the "Book of Lost Souls" individual goes around tips the balance between those who want to leave this mortal coil & those who don't by recording their story.

Paramount is still "licking themselves and their wounds after the Enterprise fiasco." So they have looked at the outline and say we will call you perhaps in a few years.

He has finished with B5 with the original story arc. Crusade was only made because the crew did not want to break up and the show was dying because what TNT wanted was not the same as Straczynski.

He is truly a great storyteller but sadly does not come with great ideas consistantly. Rather he goes through a thousand bad then stumbles on one good.

Mandarin Dude, do you hail from Toronto originally?

No actually from Erie PA not far from Toronto about a 4 hour drive.(I got my visa to come to China in Tornonto) I can pick up some television from Toronto from my home. The problem with B5 was the story arc. If you view it on DVD one a day it is awsome and I love it. But when it was on local television when I lived in Seattle I did not get it.
I heard ther was talk of a new Trek with him as the the writer which would be cool. I would like it Trekkies would loathe it. (like DS9)
His new shows sound interesting but not what I was hoping for. A new space opera like B5 only differnt would rock.
Who can be on top of their game 100% of the time. In television writing you have to take the good with the bad because of the volume of writing required. You don't have the luxury of time to weed out the weak scripts.
