Casting Strephon

Samuel Jackson as Stephon (only he could deliver the line in Arrival Vengence with the right spirit).

ok, it would not be a conventional MT casting but it certainly would be interesting...;)

She shows before that on Page 11 in the blurb about Shuruppak being given the the Vegans and renamed Regal Splendor.

In the blurb just above that one, the name Allamu is personally memorialized by "the Emperor". No name, just the title.

The point I was trying to make was that "Strephon" and "Iolanthe" seem to have been created at the same time. It's not the case of GDW coming up with Strephon and then months or year later coming back with Iolanthe. They're of the same vintage, and Iolanthe even gets mentioned first.

It would be interesting to know the thinking behind if all. Did GDW always have an emperor/empress model in mind or was an empress/prince consort model in the mix too? Sadly, as LKW points out in questions of this type, it was over 30 years ago and none of the participants really remember anymore.

Playing Strephon

I am a bit puzzled why everyone is choosing the dashing leading man type to play Strephon.This, to me at least, suggests people see him as an heroic figure.
I don't see him that way at all.
He is the one person that could have avoided the Rebelion, by better understanding, or at least watching, Dulinor. However I will grant that predicting someone else's irrational behavior is not easy, so I am willing to give him a pass on that.
What I really can't forgive is his unwillingness to end the Rebellion after it started. It would not be easy, it would likely be costly, but it would, in the long run, be LESS destructive than letting the Rebellion continue. I have every certainty that he could have done it, if he had just had the guts to. He was the rightful Emperor, and if he had made a real effort to prove he was the true Emperor, and set out to unseat the usurpers (Lucan and Dulinor), then vast portions of the Fleet, and Margaret, would have sided with him quickly (IMHO).
I found his excuse of not wanting to cause further deaths given in "Arrival Vengance" to be one of the sorriest cop-outs I've ever heard.
To me he is not at all a dashing hero type, and would be better played by someone adept at playing blundering idiots.
Perhaps Peter Sellers, playing him as an Inspector Clouseau type character.
Or maybe Peter Lorre, emphasizing his cowardly side?

I'm probably going to get blasted for this post, but I just had to express my opinion.
