Class skill cost and multiclassing

I've searched through the archives here but haven't ran across this yet. If I have a multi-classed character who's currently in marines, but his core is traveller (or anything else), can he pick traveller class skills at a cost of 1 (as in not x-class)?
So then every new class you take, you get that classes skills at a cost of 1 and can pick form that pool at any time?
kinda like you took "basketweaving" in your core class and since its a class skill then it cost 1 skill pt. then you mlticlasse into something else that doesn't have "basketweaving" as a class skill. It must still just cost 1 pt. right?

d20 has some oddities where it comes to skills.
Personally I tend to just end up handwaving with T20 characters instead, especially if a character starts to have more then 2 or so classes. However to recap the rules:

Max Rank for a skill that has ever been a class skill is character level + 3. Max Rank for a skill that has never been a class skill is (CL+3)/2.

When you level only the class skills that are in the class you are leveling in are bought at a cost of 1 to 1. This includes perma-class skills such as world skills and hobbies as well in T20. Any other skill is bought at 2 to 1.

To re-iterate your example.
Traveller class has "basketweaving"
Marine class does not have "basketweaving"
When leveling as a Marine "basketweaving" costs two skill points per single extra rank, but can be gotten to a maximum rank of (character level + 3) as it has been a class skill in the past.

What do you mean "his core"?

In most cases, you will end up taking at least one level in the class corresponding to the service you are in, but so long as you qualify for other classes, you can take levels in them.

Whether a skill is class or cross class depends on the class you got them from. So if you advance in traveller, get a pack of points from that advancement, you can buy traveller class skills for 1 point with those points, regardless of what service you are in.

sounds good. so, you can only buy skills at a 1:1 ratio for the class you just leveled up as regardless of prior class history. But, your allowed more total. I hope I got that right. ;)
by core, i meant core/base class.
I'm guessing that you might as well pick a core/base class first for level 1. Then enter a service class (if you like) because you'd need at least 1 core class unless you start your adventure in the service. Because you can't just be a Marine and then muster out becuase you can't pick Marine skills after you've left to adventure.
so if you were writing a program, would it make sense to force a core/base class selection first that wasn't a service class?

I updated the screenshots of the one I've been working on:

they are in the T20 chargen gallery...

thx!

If I understood it correctly, you don´t need a core class level after mustering out of a service; but you´d have to select a core class that you are eligible for the first time you level up during the actual adventuring.

Step away from the "core class" concept, there isn't one in T20 and the idea will lead you to incorrect assumptions.

To answer the question: when you take a level in a class, you get skill points according to that class and spend those skill points as that class indicates vis a vis Class/Cross Class skill costs.
