Classic Trav and All of It

...The Space Gamer, White Dwarf, and others that had a lot of really good CT stuff in them.

Absolutely!

There's a HUGE amount of good stuff found in the most unlikely of places for CT.

S4: That (post #1 of the thread) is probably one of the most insightful posts I've seen in weeks, period.

I tend to think of CT as just Bk1-4 & sup4, or Bks1-5 and sup4. The rest, to me, is not "core" to traveller, but to the OTU.

Thanks, Wil.

Otherwise, yeah, pretty much compatible. Comparable to MT adventures... yes, they work with CT, if you know how to read the tasks, and yes, combat will resolve differently.

Yeah, I've started collecting the adventures in S&P. Just eyeballing them, they seem to be a snap to run as CT adventures. Whenever I see a MGT rule, I quickly think to myself, "How would this be in CT." And, then I just as quickly assign a CT roll to them.

One of the nice things about CT over other editions of Traveller is that it is not as structured in some parts. The tasks system, for instance. That makes CT easy to adapt. Rule 69A will help in 99.99% of the cases.

Plus, when I see MGT combat, I just skip over the MGT rules, note the weapons they are using and their character stats, and then just run the combat as a normal CT combat encounter.

It's pretty simple. I wish there were CT stats, of course. But, the MGT stuff isn't bad.

I'll look for MGT adventures. I might even buy a supplement or two (but I'm loathe to do that since MGT really does use another game system).

That was a wonderful link. I love the expanded table. I also like some of the comments about how to play or run nobels.

This is the type of thing I allude to in the OP. That article came from White Dwarf magazine, written for CT.

It's this type of thing that makes CT a rather excellent, rather complete game system (even if you don't like the article--there are so many like this to chose from from Dragon, White Dwarf, Traveller's Digest, Space Gamer, Ares, Different Worlds, High Passage, Far Traveller, Third Imperium, Imagine Magazine, Pegasus, Security Leak, Signal GK...I'm sure I'm forgetting some...)

White Dwarf, alone, brings us 179 pages of CT goodness over its print run.

That's a lot of material! Dense material! Packed with adventures and thoughts and essays and equipment and vehicles and starships and all sorts of excellent CT stuff.

And, that's just the magazine stuff...not including all the FASA, Paranoia Press, Gamelords, Judges Guild, etc, third party supplements and adventures that have been published.

So, yes, there is A LOT of CT stuff out there that is, no days, hard to get our mits on.

*-puhtooie- spits over wall in disgust*

What? We already got one. *leans back and speaks to unseen companion* I told them we already have one....

*snickers*

LOL! A thousand pardons, m'Lord, did you find your copy on the Net, or is it the original hard copy? If it was on the Net, then was there anything else that might be interesting for me to check out.

I'm always interested in trying to recoup all the articles I lost.

*grins*

Glad to have made you laugh SabreDog, and to answer your question, the one linked is the same one I found and have in my personal AAB thread.

I also have the list of my Traveller stuff, that I have found so far...still digging.

The WD list is cool, if only I could find this stuff in print.

It seems that I too might have to hit the bookstores soon...

Here's a link to the White DWarf articles they printed: in case anyone was curious.

Hey, I remember this one:

#59) CORE: Consulary Office of Reconnaisance and Exploration

It was the first piece I ever wrote in English, and I really had forgotten
about it until I did read your list ... :eek:o:

Wow.

OK, that was cool.

So how many old school Traveller Authors are there on this board anyway? And what is the CORE and what's the Native Language, if I might ask?

And what is the CORE and what's the Native Language, if I might ask?

The CORE was a non-canon Zhodani secret service, linked to SORAG, with
the task to study, infiltrate and finally control low-tech planets in the re-
gions between the Zhodani Consulate and the Imperium, a kind of science
fiction - low fantasy mix.
My native language is German, I am from Augsburg in southern Germany.

Coolio!

Thanks for the answer, and wow, Traveller is like a Global Game, that's cool, I never knew that...sorry, am after all one of those obnoxious Americans, from the US, not like the cool upstairs neighbors (Canada) or those poor kids in the basement (Mexico) who keep coming up here to hang out with the cool kids. :D

Hmm, do they play Traveller in Mexico, that'd be cool if they did, that way when I make a run for the Border, I can bring my Traveller books....of course, if I am leaving the US, I might not get time to pack, grrrr. And if I head north I just need to find one the people on this board...

So how many countries do we have represented here, I mean besides the US, I know about them? :p

Hoping that this doesn't get me in more trouble.....

Texas is represented. :D
You hush! Your quaint little Republic was right and properly annexed by my Republic after we took take, well, sorta took care of that little Spanish problem down south of ya'll. :p I meant extant real countries, not former countries.

I swear you Texans are like the US's Baltic states the Soviets had to deal with....hey, are you guys seceding soon? :eek:o:

Don't let him get away, TBeard! I'll get the rope!

Well, Texas *is* a "whole other country"...

I swear you Texans are like the US's Baltic states the Soviets had to deal with....hey, are you guys seceding soon? :eek:o:

:)

With Fort Hood and all the various SAC bases in Texas (thanks to Congressman Lyndon Johnson), we'd probably be the third strongest nuclear power.

That might scare some folks, of course...

Lol!

So, it's like that is it...wow Supp 4, didn't know you were one of them there Texas Republic persons too. Great, well you just wait, like until say....December. *grins* Once ya'll get this far Notre I figure the frostbite will slow you down and I can fair escape (as Villains are want to do. :p)

EDIT: On second thoughts (looks back at Tbeard's post) Ummm, can I apply for Political Asylum in the New Restored Texas Republic? I was raised on Republics and well, the Imperium America is getting kinda scary for us hide bound Vilani Types, and worse for us Zho/Sol/Hiv types....we just keep monkeying with stuff and that tends to upset the Powers that be...

Well, that was kinda scary...

In any case, I think that the unpleasantness in the early 1860s pretty well settled the issue.

However, an independent Texas nation is a kind of mini-trope in sci-fi and gaming:

Gaming:

--IIRC, Texas seceeds in Twilight:2000

--Texas is independent in 2300AD

--Texas is independent in The Morrow Project's "Operation Lonestar"

--My own "Dixie:2000" has an independent Texas as an ally of the Confederacy

--"Dixie-6" has an independent Texas and is among the alternate Earths mentioned in GURPS Alternate Earths

Sci-Fi

--Texas Israeli War 1999 has Israeli mercenaries (!) fighting Texas secessionists on behalf of the US government.

--Daniel Da Cruz's Ayes of Texas has a pretty cool scenario involving a Russian battlefleet attacking a newly independent Texas defended by a rebuilt and heavily upgraded battleship USS Texas. An interesting vision of high tech naval combat (though way too high tech for 2000AD). Had two sequels.

I'm sure there are other examples; these just come to mind. And my CT Commonwealth campaign has the planet Dallas, which is colonized by settlers from Texas.

Wow, feel the love....

Dude you said 'Morrow Project', wow. I traded my T2300 to a dude who had that game.

And I read both of those books.

See I even know the propaganda. :p
