Combined histories???

If a group of players wanted to do charcter gen together could 2 or more work towards trying to get a ship together?? As a partenership?

Well the rulebook doesn't seem to allow for it... but I'd refer you to the real T20 rules in Hunter's .sig --

The ONLY rules to T20. Everything else is a suggestion...
…1) The Referee is right.
…2) If the book says one thing and the referee says another, see rule #1
…3) Argue about it AFTER the game
As long as it is cool with the ref you can do pretty much anything......

Here is the situation I am thinking of;

Two guys meet in college (first 4 years of prior service), become good friends and decide they want to go into business together one day as Traders.

One guy, we'll call him Mr. Rothchild, decides he will concetrate on the business aspect and continues with a graduate degree in business/law and then takes a few tours as a merchant.

The other guy, Mr. Lansky, decides to focus on operations and does 1 tour in the navy and then a tour or two in the scouts.

When it comes time for mustering out rewards could the two of them combine on a roll to see if they can get a ship jointly.

Its kind of like to fighters in D&D trying to open a door. One guy rolls with all his mods and then gets an additional modifier from the person helping.

This would simulate the two characters working together to use all their resources (money, contacts and reputation) to strike up a deal.

Sound resonable??

I only ask because my FLGS is sold out of the book and won't get another order for another week or two. My mind is doing cartwheels in the mean time.

I often end up making players re-roll the 'ship' result. or credit it towards payements the party's ship.

What kind of Campaign the players want to play in; Is something I negotiate with them prior and during character creation. What kind of ship(s), if any, they get are usually a part of that campaign.

Active Service usually have a naval vessel under a naval command.

Free Traders get a free trader etc.

And I encourage 'combined histories' if two characters get similar assignments for their last term I'll let them have met each other.

I actively look for links between characters so that the party is not ICly a ship of strangers inclined to backstab each other and blow up my campaign.

I usually make all "ship" results equal 1-10 Mcr of Vouchers for the Imperial Surpluss Starship Program. The subsector Dukes' reserve fleets sell off old, obsolete, repossessed, seized, forfeited, derelict and unneeded starships to honest citizens.

The players pool their credits for a down payment and can buy an old ship for half the list price at a standard mortgage rate.

I LIKE that one Dr. Skull. May try it in a future campaign.

1/2 list price.
Standard 40 year mortgage.
each 'ship' result= 10Mcr Voucher towards downpayment?

Somewhere between 1 and 10 Mcr depending on the size of the party, but everything else right on th emoney

The way we used to do this was to handle it the same way we would handle a player getting multiple ships on mustering out. Each additional ship acquired reduced the original ship's mortgage by 10 years.

I think we started with a 30 year mortgage for all ships, so this meant we needed to get 4 ship rolls in order to own a ship outright.
