Investigators have served warrants at the main offices of the Neu Deutschland Bank in connection to an investigation into alleged payments routed through the bank in connection to an alleged "hit squad" as revealed in the Excalibur Files. Sources at the Reich Investigative Service of Friedland tell us that they had gotten tipped off by people at the Gateway News Service that funds for the black operations were apparently laundered through the bank, with connections to Freedonia, Sutekh, New Canberra, Xanadu, and Gateway.

General Manager of the bank Herr Ernst von Gruenwald said that this was a complete nothing-wurst, and that his banks records will stand up to the strictest scrutiny so he has no concern at all regarding the service of these warrants. He told GNS that at no time is his bank involved in any wrong doing, and they are one of the premier banks in the sector renowned for their honesty, integrity, and rate of return on investments.

We are told that in connection to this investigation, that investigators with the New Texas Rangers have requested that the New Texas Commerce Bank turn over certain records which could possibly show some connection to this scandal.
 
Reich is in the correct German sense of Empire, not at all anything to do with the 3rd Reich. Friedland has a distinct 2nd Reich feel Reich=Empire in english.

My largest shot ever was just over 9000kg explosive weight in old ordnance and countercharge materials, in the desert long ago. We were several miles off and it was still epic.

The "Atrocity" Mercenary Company run by Major Bill "Atrocity" Smith has renewed their contract with Enclave Sulawesi-Donar and will continue to run counter insurgency operations on this world much to the annoyance of the Xin Zhongguo Imperial forces who see the mercenary units as undisciplined cowboys who make their job of bringing this world under Imperial control much harder. Most of the Enclaves and colonies have no desire to become part of the New Chinese Empire (新中华帝国 Xīn zhōnghuá dìguó ) and have consistently rejected any Imperial entanglements. The Imperial enclave on this world has grown with the addition of the colonists from Han Shan ( 寒山Hánshān ) which were placed here after the Alien Life Forms (ALFs) took over their colony on the chlorine swathed planet.

The Atrocity Company has a ripe reputation stemming from several incidents where they were accused of illegal activity in regards to prisoners which were shot "attempting to escape" on New Africa, where warrants for the leadership are still outstanding.

PM Gonzales-Cenisac has announced that his Home Secretary Mr. Gordon Bennett-Gordon was stepping down to take a position with Interstellar Business Machines as Subsector Director of Operations in the New Caledonia Subsector. Mr. Bennett-Gordon had been Home Secretary for the last two years, having been lured out of the private sector in order to help clean up the various scandal ridden offices in the wake of the Gateway Loyalists/GeneCo scandal.

He said that in light of his growing family of eight, he needed to spend more time with them, and was looking forward to being the Director of Operations in the New Caledonia subsector for Interstellar Business Machines operations there. He has always been a technocrat, and computer hobbyist which has stood him in good standing as he was chosen for this position.

The Gateway Federation Home Office has exclusively used Interstellar Business Machines computers since Mr. Bennett-Gordon took office citing that; "You only want to get the very best bang for the citizens buck, so we chose Interstellar Business Machines computers to replace all of the older Cybertronics Data systems computers". He stated that his current employment has nothing at all to do with this replacement of systems at the Home Office. He steps down on 365-2506.

PM Gonzales-Cenisac announced that Mr Ekiwondu Obijima would be taking the postition, having been deputy minister under Bennett-Gordon. The Prime Minister wishes the Home Secretary the very best in his future endeavors.

The collected seasons of the Power Poodles of Electron 9 special boxed edition has sold out completely. Celestial Temple Productions is looking at possibly releasing additional sets since the demand was so high. On New Texas Diana Zipp was accosted at the local New Texas Book stores and staged an impromptu signing of the boxed set. Collectors have been snapping up this edition of the most popular show in the history of the sector. Gomer Kleinschmidt who played Captain Thunder in the show has been signed up to appear on the SciFi Convention circuit and is scheduled to give interviews regarding this hit show.
 
348-2506 Gateway News Service- Friedland

Kaiser Otto was seen wearing the uniform of a Field Marshal of the Imperial Friedland Army as he presided over the annual Army Day celebrations. Allied units from Freedonia, St. Ekaterina, New Texas, Sutekh and Xanadu were invited to join the celebrations. Each world sent at least a battalion of troops with Freedonia, and St. Ekaterina sending a full brigade of troops. The New Texas Troops were accompanied by their battalion patron Natasha Alvarez, since New Texas had sent the 8th battalion of the 143rd Infantry (Jump).

The Imperial Guard Division led the march past with the band of the Guard providing music for each and every unit in the celebration. The march past lasted three hours due to the number of units involved. As is Friedland Tradition, the Imperial Friedland Navy sent enough beer for every soldier to have at least a brimming mug of beer, with the Imperial family getting the traditional pickled herring and schnapps.

The Kaiser presented awards to some deserving soldiers, and decorated the banners of the units which served on Marduk during the Gilfig War with the Banner of the Black Eagle. The Kaiser and Kaiserin appeared in supremely good spirits, and for the first time since the death of Kaiser Karl the whole family was present to wave to the festive crowds. The Kaiserin was not in uniform, but was wearing a delicately pastel pink dress from the Miriam el-Hassan Fall collection, with Jerzy Fornast stilettos and a Tomas Gomez fascinator.

The first of the pus patrol ships have gone out to check the herds of Mega-Whales to determine if pus production has started on the whales. The crews are eager to resume pus production so that they can restart shipments off world.

Ultima Thule customs, supported by Omega Tech Security have arrested over 18 environmental activists who have attempted to gain entry to the planet, and have incarcerated all of them for "illegal entry", and when they have finished their sentences they will be deported with a permanent Persona Non Grata status.

Fifty one retired military officers who signed a letter accusing Prime Minister Gonzalez-Cenisac of "Undermining the safety and security of the Gateway Federation". Their complaint is that the Prime Minister has put a moratorium on military spending increases unless there is a "clear and pressing need" for additional spending. Many of the retired officers have been employed by various defense contractors after they left military service.

Their main complaint is the refusal of the PM and Parliament to approve a new class of capital ships that were scheduled to be funded before the PM took office. The Minister of War has said that there is no need to add additional capital ships, instead they have agreed to add eight cruisers, and 16 escort ships to the fleet's strength as a counter to the demobilization of older TL 10/11 ships which have been retired since they could not longer be economically upgraded with new technologies.

The officers were all forced out of service and made to retire due to their connections with the former leaders of the Gateway Loyalist Party. Several of these former flag officers are currently employed by Defense contractors attempting to sell new weapon systems to both the Gateway Federation, and other governments and registered mercenary companies.

In other Military related news from the Gateway Federation, Interstellar Business Machines Weapon systems division, formerly the General Products Weapon Systems division has announced that they have taken the Swordfish missile of infamy previously produced by General Products, and are producing the "Swordfish Mk II" which is reported to have been under development to fix the multitude of deficiencies and technical issues related to the Swordfish MK I which developed such an absolutely terrible reputation across settled space as being more dangerous to the launching ship than to enemy vessels.

The spokesman for the Interstellar Business Machines Weapon Systems Division said that the seeker systems have been upgraded, the IFF systems have also been replaced with new units sourced under license from New Texas Arms, and the warhead has been upgraded with a new powerful detonation warhead. The Mark II version is under testing, and will be able to fit into the standard Mark XII launcher system used in both Gateway Navy vessels, but other compatible launchers used by Freedonia, Friedland, New Texas, Xanadu, and several other nations.
 
007-2507 Gateway News Service- Bebop Station

The station has suffered a failure in its computer system for its fueling stations, which has temporarily shut down the station as the computers are rebooted, and updated. It appears that a new software patch for the stations CyberTech system 9000 computer which handles the delivery of fuel to ships was given a bad software update which caused a glitch shutting down the whole system. The software engineers who installed the patch were reported to have said: "It worked fine at the office, we don't know why it glitched here." Staff members discovered that the software had been tested under OS 41, but NOT OS 42 which is what is installed on the station. OS 42 is not compatible with the patch.

The techs from CyberTech said that they recommended rolling back to OS 41, but since all other systems are on OS 42, that is not practical. The system has been re-started with a clean copy of OS 42, and the station operations supervisor would like to apologize to all those ships which have been stranded for the last four days as this issue has been worked out.

CyberTech has issued a statement that it was not their fault that they had not been told that Bebop Station was using OS 42 instead of OS 41. The station however responded, that they "Bloody well should have known, it is THEIR software and maintenance contract after all!" We expect lawsuits to be filed over this issue by the affected ships, and perhaps the station operators. CyberTech has denied any wrongdoing on their part.

The glitch also shut down the coffee delivery system at A Cuppa Joe restaurants on the station, which caused caffeine addicts to suffer withdrawal symptoms until service was restored by using old fashioned methods of coffee delivery.

The "Toilet Bowl Four": Janelle Selikovsky, Brantly Benson, Homer Gordievskii, and Nancy Pelligro found out their fate today, with all four being sentenced to life in the maximum security prison. These four were Gateways Most Wanted for many months after the fall of GeneCo.

As they left the courthouse, the bus was pelted with foam toilets in honor of their capture when the police sent ZPXC40 gas up through the toilets in their hideout. Mr. Benson, who was on the toilet at the time of the raid, has recovered from the injuries he sustained as the high pressure gas blew him off the toilet in a shower of brown water. We are told he suffered significant emotional distress as a result of this incident, and has a fear of toilets ever since he was blown clear, suffering multiple broken bones.

Also sentenced was Petra Sokolovsky who was the system manager for General Products Gene Experiment division, another person hiding in the building as well as the Toliet Bowl Four. She was sentenced for her participation in both slavery, kidnapping, and several other felonies to life in prison as well.

The head prosecutor said that these sentences were very lenient, because his view was they all deserved the death penalty, but the attorneys at Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe were able to convince the judge that the death penalty was too harsh.

The families of the crew of the NTSS Purple Sage which as is well known was destroyed in an accident involving the cruiser Richard Kim and a new experimental AI system have demanded that their case go to a jury trial and for the government of New Texas to quit stalling their requests for discovery! The case was filed in 2505 just as the statute of limitations was due to take place, and there has been a contentious battle over discovery in the case, with the Government and Navy claiming that military secrets might be exposed which would cause grave damage to defense of New Texas if the families were allowed to see the material.

The Judge in the case has decided that the lawyers for the family will be allowed to see the documents requested, but under an order of secrecy, and only at the Naval facilities where no copies will be allowed to be made of any classified or sensitive defense information. The attorneys for the families have protested this, and have filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal in order to gain unfettered access, accusing the Navy, and Government of a cover up.

Also the attorneys for retired admiral Elaine Alvarez, older sister of Major Richard Alvarez of Natasha Alvarez fame, have come out and supported the government's position on the documents as being "too sensitive to be seen". The parties have until 100-2507 to file all their briefs with the Appellate Court. Retired Rear Admiral Alvarez has said that the documents the families want are of such a nature that they need to be placed under 200 year seal. The families contest this, claiming that Admiral Alvarez and the Navy just want to cover up their lack of competency, lack of safety measures, and the testing of an untried, and defective AI weapons control system. Admiral Alvarez and her attorney's deny this completely.

Since retired Admiral Alvarez was the one behind the AI deployment, and was the driving force to "modernize the old outdated thinking of the fleet", she is seen as the prime mover in the deployment and testing of the AI which went so horribly wrong.

The deposition of retired Vice Admiral Lucas Spirotakis has been put on hold at the direction of the Minister of War, who has filed for a protective order to prevent the admiral from having to be deposed or testify in this case. Increasingly calls of "cover up" are being heard across New Texas over this case. The families of the NTSS Purple Sage frigate have demanded that they get justice for their deceased loved ones.

Well it is the new year here on Gateway, and the parties were spectacular last night with hangovers being the norm. Sports teams are playing, and life is hopeful for the new year here on the capital of the Gateway Federation.

In the latest on the Starship Nosferatu and its intrepid crew which includes DL Thevins-Wong, they have picked up a cargo of speculative trade goods, headed into the Outlands subsector. We have spoken with the brokerage firm of Spengler, Moss and Donovan and were told that the captain Garcia-Nguyen has taken on a cargo of 20 tons of Lingonberry jelly, 10 tons of Swedish meatballs, 9 tons of Vids and other entertainment devices, 1 ton of spatball paddles, and balls, 400 kilograms of Surströmming, and 72 tons of other assorted subsidized cargo.

She said that she heard that on Heorot there was a booming demand for Surströmming, Lingonberries, and Swedish meatballs, and so was headed there to make some money. The remaining cargo is consigned to the colony of Shangri La under contract with the government of Gateway. The Nosferatu has broken orbit, and is headed out into the frontier.

Captain Garcia-Nguyen told GNS that she is looking a the potential for a nice trade between the Outlands and the Gateway Subsectors. Her ship is freshly out of overhaul and annual maintenance at the New Texas Yards. When asked about Ms. DL Thevins-Wong, the captain would only say that she is working out well, and for us to not bother her. The Nosferatu is a Broadsword class ship modified for the cargo role but is, as common for this class, very heavily armed.

The ALFs have told us that Fumgozzling is soon to end, and they will be departing for the "Sacred lands of our home caves" if the translation was correct. However, a ship will remain to ensure that no "Foul soft ones, defile the holy and sacred land of Fumgozzling thereby requiring the extermination of all soft ones.
 
014-2507 Gateway News Service- Hades Station

William Bingo Cheval, the 5th son of Dorian Cheval, was killed today in an apparent bar fight in the Blue Parrot bar as he intervened in a brawl between patrons, and members of his crew over insults toward Sutekh, Mr., Cheval was pulling the fighters apart when he was stabbed multiple times by one of the fighters.

Mr. Cheval had both kidneys punctured, as well as his left lung. He expired before EMS arrived on scene. The killer managed to get out of the bar before Station Security arrived and they found the knife on scene which had been dropped by the killer. Video surveillance shows that after Mr. Cheval was stabbed, the killer tossed the knife against the wall, and fled out the front door of the bar. The knife was described as a cheap 120mm long blade with a single edge of the sort that many people carry for work.

None of the crew of crew knew at first that their captain had been stabbed, until he collapsed on the floor of the bar. The crew attempted CPR and called for EMS, but by the time first responders arrived, Mr. Cheval had passed. Station Security immediately began a search for the killer, and video shows he entered an area that is off limits due to its age. Security teams entered the area, and found the body of the killer stuffed away behind some crates.

Forensic tests show he was strangled by a garrote, wielded by an expert. No cameras were in place in the area due to its age, and the cameras being scavenged by Lurkers who inhabit areas such as this one. The neck wound was clean, with no DNA traces being found. No DNA from the killer had been found anywhere on the body. A packet of credit chips in the amount of one hundred thousand stellars was found on the body.

The body of Mr. Cheval was claimed by his First Officer, and has been released by Station Security where it will be taken back to Sutekh after Dorian arrives. Mr. Cheval had been on the station awaiting the arrival of his father on 025 day. The body has been taken to Joe's Mortuary on Level 7, hub 2 corridor 3 where he will remain until his father arrives. In light of this Station Security has upped its alert level to OMG! All system defense boats are on Alert One.

A source within Station Security tells GNS that the killer was obviously skilled with a knife due to the nature of the wounds and how they were delivered. It does not appear that the killer cut himself on his own knife as is somewhat common by many untrained knife brawlers. At this time the homicide investigation is looking at the brawl having been staged in order to get at the late Mr. Cheval.
 
Dorian Cheval is one of the oldest traveller characters run by a guy in my game, he became fabulously wealthy (Elon Musk levels +) and is a power to be reckoned with. His ships are all 1,999 tons, and armed to the teeth. He is...direct in his applications of force. He runs the Royal Sutekh Merchant Marine, and Cheval Enterprises, having been declared King of Sutekh back in the day before abdicating in favor of his oldest son, and going back to being a merchant prince. He travels around with a dozen battledress ready bodyguards and is not a nice man.
