Consolidated Alien character generation?

jappel

SOC-13
Has anyone ever compiled the canonical alien character generation information from the various sources? Or at least the pieces found outside the major Aliens books, such as those found in JTAS?

Just looking to not reinvent the wheel.

If anyone had, I suspect publishing it in any form would violate a lot of copyrights. I think the MTCG character generator at one point had generation for many of the races (I get the impression some may have been removed for reasons of intellectual property rights). If I recall correctly, it still has a fair few of the advanced generation schemes.

And Marc Miller plans to have an alien race generation system as part of the chargen system for T5... the output of which is a front-end to the chargen system for your custom alien race.

Projected release date: there isn't one. :(

Well, I wasn't neccessarily looking for a published compilation. Heck, even an index of sorts that listed items like "Virushi - JTAS Issue #XX, pp. YY-ZZ" would do the trick. Looks like I'm adding this to the "to do" hopper.

Robject - thanks for the tip about T5. However, I prefer to use the tools at hand (in this case, CT with a few house rules, the BITS/DGP task system, etc.).

So, are you looking for simply an *INDEX* to where the alien generation schemes may be located? I might be able to offer a fairly decent set of that data, given a bit of time. That's different from having a compilation of the rules... what is it you want, exactly?

Blech. I've been exceedingly unclear and inarticulate here. I'll try to pull my head out of my fourth point of contact[1] and clarify:

My goal is to have gathered in one place all the CT character generation information, with the intent of being able to hand it to a player and say "Here you go, make a character." Since I own a copy of all the GDW CT products (well, all that matter in this instance, save some issues of Challenge) and it's not something they get to keep (just a play aid) I'm fairly sure this falls under "fair use".

In a perfect world someone would have already done this and have saved me the legwork.
Failing that, an index would have been a helpful timesaver. Given that neither seems to exist, I'll be cracking open my LBBs and BFBs and pulling this together.

Thanks for the offer, though.

[1] Fourth point of contact = the fourth part of the body to make contact with the ground when executing a Parachute Landing Fall (PLF). I'm sure which part this is can be discerned from context...

Were you planning to use basic or advanced generation?

For things like Solomani, there is AM6, then there is the subsequent Cats and Rats version... which had you in mind?

I think this isn't a bad idea - an index to all the aliens and the book/page locations for the info seems like a pretty darn good project for the community, doesn't it?

On a side note, are the first three points feet, knees, thighs...? I think I have a very good idea what the 4th point is... ;)

CT advanced generation for the most part. I should mention that MTU is a total home-brew bearing no resemblence to the 3I setting at all - I just strip the aliens of the OTU history references. (I treat the Zhodani as separate human subculture that embraces psionics, for example.)

Let's just say that you try to make contact with the "fleshy" parts of the body, starting with the balls of your feet.

Anyhow, I'll start digging into things this weekend.

jappel,
Where did you learn PLFs? IIRC, from my ejection seat training (only crazy people jump out of perfectly good airplanes:)), we only had 3 contact points in a properly done PLF: feet, thigh, shoulder. An improperly done one only had three as well, depending on direction: feet, knees, face or feet, keister, head.

BTW, I think a general index to certain things within CT would be great! A list of pages, books, JTAS, etc. for CG, shipbuilding, tech, a map of the OTU, etc.

(Or, am I missing something that already exists....)
