Construction of construction yards

Following on from an earlier post somewhere else in the forum. I gace some details of new yards being opened or repaired to bring them back into service. Note that the Alston starport is class A.

Any ideas on how long it would take to put together and/or repair construction facilities of various sizes? (OK I know we havn't built many starships on Earth)

The planet has the population and tech level to in theory build around 800,000 dt of shipping at a time (current capacity is around 2% of that). Given that the resources and will are available how long before the full potential construction total can be reached?

It would depend on a lot of factors, amount of investment being paramount IMHO.
If there is a perceived threat that makes a crash shipbuilding program a necessity then the level of investment is going to be high.
The limiting factor could be how quickly can you train your workforce in the skills needed to build the ships?

Gurps starports gives cost /sizes for shipyard modules (jump and non jump capable). It should just be a case of how much your infrastructure can build.

The primitive ship rules for MT published in have costs to build various starport sizes, and detail how much shipping they can handle.

The best sources is T4 pocket empires that has details of costs and times for building starports.

I have always assumed that the shipyard is more of an assembly area and your planetary infrastructure still needs to build the components, and the port is just a large equipped space to weld all the bits together.
