Data Trafficking

It seems that data brokering is about moving data from place to place. The data is public but you want to ensure that it hasn't been changed from its original source.

This is exactly what blockchain ledgers are meant to do. As a starship moves from system to system, new data brokers can attach data to the data store and digitally sign it so that it's essentially tamper-proof.

You might manage to forge an entry yourself, but because other ships carry the same data, eventually they'll show up and there will be a discrepancy, and a blockchain "vote" will occur and resolve the lie.

I think it pretty much comes down to context and pattern recognition, which is why repetition tends to be be the weak link.

If you have an idea of what the encrypted message is likely about, and the code and slight variations on it are used over a period of time, brute force will eventually figure it out.

Constantly improving software and hardware will continually diminish the time required, knowing the context of the message will allow ignoring interpretations that don't make sense.

No, it won't.

AES was actually designed to be resistant to known text attacks. "Boiling oceans", and "heat death" are things that happen faster than brute forcing AES.

Deconstructing organizations by timestamp analysis

One of the deep-dive things that I'd love to figure out how to incorporate is using topographical analysis of timestamps on messages, and I'm assuming here that everything in the {{{data|event} streams}|blockchains} includes something like a Lamport Timestamp.

A top-down decision structure could be exploited, once you figured out the maximum time/distance delay between the "head" and the "hands". Arbitrage, false-flag ops, misinformation... There's a credit to be made, or a power structure to be disrupted somewhere in there.

[I guess this is almost redundant to the thread where someone is visualizing the spread of news about Strephon's murder.]

I remember software testing on a distributed system two decades ago, where we figured out that while an individual node or group of local nodes did okay w/r/t Y2K, a group of nodes got entirely out of whack if they spanned time zones, because of timestamp formatting.

and a few others ....

for an example consider how rothschild made his fortune, front-running news of wellington's engagement with napoleon and propagating disinfo ahead of the official news ....
