Do we need a Miniature fourm?

I'd still prefer a separate miniatures section, but hey, if the Powers would rather change the Wargames to Miniatures and Wargames, that's better than nothing.

I was looking at the board last night and came to the conclusion "Miniatures" wouldn't really fit (for my taste at least) in the "Other Versions of Traveller" section where "Wargames" currently resides, even with a name change. Miniatures aren't really another version. Not even a game necessarily. More a game enhancement. And since there are both craft and character minis (and animals I suppose) it wouldn't fit in one of the more specific general areas either. The only place that looked like a fit to me was "The Lone Star" lounge.

So I suppose I've changed my mind, again ;) Quick, please create a Miniatures forum in "The Lone Star" lounge section before I chan... you know, maybe...

Heh heh heh... ooooh, a wise-guy...
;)

And before we can have miniatures, we need to arg... err... I mean discuss... the merits of the various scales.

Miniatures section is a good Idea

I love miniatures: making 'em, painting 'em, converting 'em, whatever so a seperate section would appeal to me. The other thing is that Traveller has no official minis for some time, just copies with the serial numbers filed off. I would love to be able to put some minis on the table that I can point the players to and announce: "That's what it looks like."

Vehicles, starships, aliens, animals, player characters are all needed and, in reference to above, how people are converting them is also of interest.

Should there be a dedicated miniatures section, on this board?

We could have a sticky listing alternative miniature, with a painting and gallery area. I know, it will be a little anemic at first, but it’s really hard to talk to freelance miniature artist about the potential market for 15mm and 28mm miniatures, without a modicum of support. There is also this gulf, or at least a failure to communicate between the miniaturists and gamers community. Normally this is breached by the licensing mechanic, but Traveller has no such agency working for it currently, so we need to do our own and drum up support.
Wow I know, I have been a Traveller fan for a while, but ... Anyways, with 3d printing and miniature issues become revitalized how about doing or at least changing the forum title to make things easier for find. 3d printing miniatures and terrain really should there own crafting sections, for todays game

The 3D printing stuff is minor at best.

There's a ton of 28mm sci-fi miniatures and terrain out there and the new 3d printed ships are going to need crew and enemies. I can see once those ships become more prevalent that there would be a resurgence of minis. Some Infinity minis would go well with Traveller.

It would be neat to have a new subject in the new software forum.

I vote 'Yes' for a new Miniatures subForum. If it's being discussed again.

I think a separate forum section is a great idea.

Wow, if a company with the right tooling and experience came in and licensed miniatures for Traveller they could make a nice chunk of change. *cough* Warlord Games *cough*

When I was in the States, I picked up a box of Traveller miniatures, probably dating back to the Eighties; it's somewhere in storage, I think. I may have mixed them with Star Wars miniatures, same vintage.

I recall the Star Wars minis being smaller.

I kinda suspect with the rise of three dee printing, and likely better quality control, you can manufacture any miniature of any particular character or ship, of any particular franchise.

There are now

>5 different lines of SW Minis...
WEG had a line for Star Wars Miniatures Battles. True 25mm.
Galoob had a line of micro-machines figures in the 90's that were essentially 20mm. Many people used them with SWMB
There are the minis by WotC to support SWd20 and SWSE.
There are FFG character minis for two different games (I forget the titles... Imperial Assault and Legion, looking at the walmart lines) One appears to be 25mm and the other 28mm...
Then they have the roughly 5-7mm line of ships for X-wing, and the much differently scaled big ships for Armada.
Galoob have a newer toy line. which are superdeformed about 25mm but super chunky... look great if you can tolerate the chonk...

I'm not certain that's the exhaustive list, and I'm not counting the 3.5" nor 12" action figures.
