Earth - what's it like?

No sweat. I would have posted that link - I found those archives a few months ago and I dearly love going through the old Dragons - but I wasn't sure it was cool to do so, or if that archive is "legit." I'm still fairly new here. But that article and how it framed Traveller's setting for me knocked me of my feed and started a long appreciation.

Since the site is, or at least seems to be, well known I decided to post the link; and if the moderators had a problem with it they would let us know.

IMTU, a charred and lifeless husk of a planet, the site of an ancient conflict, now silent...but harbouring a deep, dark secret....

;)

Hmm, along those lines, in the anime series Legend of the Galactic Heroes Earth is a sideshow, hardly anybody lives there, but there is an Earth Cult hellbent on returning Earth to central prominence in humanity as a matter of religious faith.

They are a major force in the show, they are also known as- Terraists.

Sounds vaguely inspired by some stuff I have gleaned from a few of the Dumarest books, which makes me wonder if they were translated into Japanese.

That was a space opera; Dumarest seems more roman noir.

My players with zero Traveller experience immediately fell into the noir that CT seems to promote in characters. Not so much fatalistic, but off the bat they were cynical, morally ambiguous and money-grubbing. I love it haha..
