Enhanced/extended CharGen for Supp 4?

Expanding on the "book 4-7 or not?" thread, has anyone developed any of the Supp 4 careers into an enhanced CharGen sequence, a la LBBs 4-7?

I'd be interested to see the results if people have

Of course I forgot that COAC covers some of the Supp4 careers....

I think that the careers section of T4 uses the extended book 4-7 system to create characters. They seem to match up nicely with the supp 4 careers.

Well, it's not quite advanced chargen, but the two tweaks imposed in MT (Special Duty roll & additional skill if roll high) turn out characters comparable (in terms of number of skills) to those created using the 1-yr advanced method.

Those two chargen rules from MT allow Traveller characters to be mixed and matched, whether from the 1-yr or 4-yr method.

I am thinking about creating Expanded Chargen for Scientists and Belters; Belters would be quite straightforward as they could probably use Book 7 (Merchant Prince) as a basis (especially for corp belters). Scientists would be more comple as the system will have to integrate both formal education (college, university), lab/field work and the occasional sabbatical. Also, Scientist "ranks" would be based on formal education (atleast up to PhD and including it) or on position (Professor) rather on promotion rolls or mere (LBB7-style) certification tests.

Omer,

FYI, there's a Challenge article that has expanded chargen for Scientists. In fact, I think I've seen more than one (maybe also in JTAS, or Traveller Digest, or one of the other mags).

I don't think I've seen a published set of rules for Belter advanced chargen, but I know I've seen a few home grown systems on the net...just to give you ideas.

I think the Belter 4-Year method in the Belter boxed set is a little different from what you see in Supp 4. And, I think what appears in The Spinward Marches Campaign may be a hair different still (not sure about that).

All ideas for your grey matter.

Another thing I used to do (and since have stopped) is to give characters going through chargen a chance at additional skills when they roll on the aging table.

Whatever the roll is on the aging table, make that roll again. If successful, the character gets an additional skill for the term.

You can give a character one roll when he rolls on the table, or you can give that character an extra chance for a skill each time he rolls against an aged stat (three extra tries for a skill if the character rolls on the aging table for his STR, DEX, and END to go down).

The thought here is: The character may loose a stat point, but getting older also means getting wiser and obtaining more knowledge and expertise (a skill).

When I used this rule, I used the same roll for both. For example, if a charcter needs to roll 8+ or his STR is reduced a point, then the roll to see if he gets a new skill is also 8+.

Again, this option is described in the pdf doc in my sig.
