Escape Velocity Nova for Windows!

Ambrosia Software has released Escape Velocity Nova for Windows. From the press release:

EV Nova finds you, a young pilot with a brand-new shuttlecraft, full
power cells, and an entire universe to explore. You must choose which
missions to take, which people to trust and which gear to buy. Will a
rack of solar panels be more useful than a shiny new laser turret?
Which ship has the best layout for your playing style? You'll be able
to choose from literally hundreds of ships and upgrades in your
journeys.
Most of the game is played in a top-down, 2D perspective of your ship (and escorts). The game revolves around going from system to system buying/selling cargos as well as running missions. You can play as a merchant, a government agent, a pirate, a pirate hunter, or some combination in between. The game is great fun and highly replayable since there are 6 major story lines and a number of minor ones.

If you like sci-fi action-rpg games and Traveller, you probably will like Escape Velocity Nova.

I have no affiliation with Ambrosia Software other than being a happy customer.

NO NO NO! Don't spill the beans yet! I'm still planning my Traveller plugin for it!
Its been in the back of my mind for years, since the first of the trilogy. But with this and that its coming slowly. Then they announced it was getting ported to windows so I got interested again.

Don't worry that there were two Mac only previous versions that were equally great, each one plays on its own. And yes if you play through all the built in scenarios and get tired of being the baddest mercenary fleet captain of the universe there are fan developed plugins to add new dimensions to the game. Or script your own if you feel creative. Note some of the preceeding may only be Mac applicable but I'd hope they port over the rest of it too.

The Mac demo version originally let you play for 30 days before they sent a nasty ship hunting down the software pirate you had become
(in the game, not RL, at least I don't think they would, I payed the very reasonable price just so I wouldn't find out the hard way

I too don't work for Ambrosia but they are one of the best Mac software outfits going and if they are now including PC's in their efforts you should be most thankful once you try out their stuff.

Even in its base configuration the game is very Traveller like.

I'd love to see a Traveller plug in for the game. Some of the base techs would have to be changed (for example, no shields, all armor), but I could easily see Scout/Couriers, Free Trader, Far Traders, Gazelles, etc floating around. :)

Now, the only thing about EVN that I didn't like is the thing where they hunted you down like a dog. I understand it, but I don't like it - I was willing to live with all the disabled features because I didn't have the money to buy it.

Now I have a computer which refuses to play it; says it's too risky for viruses. Maybe it just needs a video card (as opposed to a chip).

My point? Oh, my point. EV, the first and the third (never tried the second, so...) is mildly more like 2300AD than Traveller, in terms of ships at least.
