Copycats was my first feeling too when there were no big explosions. I was half hoping it was some idiots with fireworks and the collective IQ of a rock. Second thought was amature wannabes who tried but failed. Either way I'm grateful it wasn't worse, being it was bad enough.

I've just heard an explosives expert saying that the type of explosive used on 7/7 degrades fairly quickly, becoming useless after a few weeks, making him think the failed bombs came from the same batch.
If I was a police officer and it looked like some nutcase had a bomb that could take me and a whole bunch of other people out with the flick of a switch I might be inclined to pop a few extra slugs in his noggin just to be sure.
It must be very difficult to know that you have to make those choices in a split second.
