Fanzines of the past...

Flynn

Good morning, All,

After making a comment earlier today regarding the High Passage and Far Traveller fanzines, I started thinking about the other fanzines that Traveller has seen in the past, and trying to figure out which ones I should take the effort to collect, and which ones I shouldn't even worry about.

Toward that end, I compiled a list of possible fanzines to consider, and decided I'd ask you guys what you thought about any of these. If you've read any of the following and have any comments, good or bad, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks For Your Time,

My personal favorite of the fanzines I've seen so far has been Third Imperium, of 11 issues, which I didn't include above because I already know I want to collect all of those. Third Imperium had a regular three-panel comic strip, a starship article, a subsector of the Trojan Reaches, an adventure based in the new subsector, a techie article, and so on. Of those I've collected so far, they run 18-20 pages an issue and are packed with good stuff. I'm hoping some of the above are like that. I definitely don't want to waste time or money collecting dreck.

More later,
Flynn

Signal GK had a very high standard for a fanzine and would be in a tie position with Security Leak. I also like Third Imperium but it lacks a certain "je ne sais pas quoi" and Jumpspace was good before it morphed into the A4 format and covered other games.

Hmmmm.... I haven't seen Signal GK as yet, but I have seen Security Leak online and it looks good. I'll definitely add GK to my list of dream-stuff, then.
Jumpspace was good, too? At least before it went A4?

Cool, thanks,
Flynn

I have now all 13 of TTC [deadtree], and the 11 of Third Imperium [electronic style]. Very worth while yer collecting them.

I'll see ye at genCon. We'll talk there.

All of the above occasional appears on eBay every so often. But, best news is that Signal GK is going to the route of PDF if you follow the thread that is going on in the TNE portion.

Don't hold your breath on Seeker's promise to release more Traveller products...as they seem to be promising more than they deliver. I know that they are only a small outfit but if they charge rediculiously high prices for items on their website then go eBay and sell them for a fraction of that...under the guise, it might be someone formerly attached to the organization who is selling the stuff...when the user name and all matches the Seeker profile. Better to release the stuff cheap and plentiful to build back your customer base, if you ask me.

I remember that, but there hasn't been a lot of activity on that discussion in several months, so I'm still eagerly awaiting.

Agreed. Seeker hasn't done a lot to earn much respect in the industry today. Big promises and no delivery at all simply ruins a customer's faith in a company over time.

Thanks,
Flynn

One other item to the list, I would want to see more of the Tidewater Traveller Times...as this is a true fanzine by "Geo" and really reflects what it was like to game with a small active community like I used to in 80s at my local library...sigh...

Also add Coreward, a fanzine by Paul Drye, now with SJ Games. and also there are several new electronic fanzines available, check out Stellar Reaches for an updated list.

Well I'm new to Traveller but I just wanted to post and say that I like your fanzine, I've already downloaded yours and I'm going to put it into my kindle!
