Five Interview Questions...

Flynn

SOC-14 1K
Good afternoon, All,

In looking forward to later issues of Stellar Reaches, I realized that I would love to have interviews from some of the Ancient Ones of Traveller, the big names in the business. Stealing the concept of the Friday Fives, a set of interviews conducting over on ENWorld from time to time, I figured I might send out a set of the same five questions to different Ancients, and see what the different answers would be. The problem was that the five questions asked by the Friday Fives just doesn't seem to work here:

</font>
  • Give us an overview of your product lines.</font>
  • Tell us at length about your most recent project (upcoming or just released).</font>
  • What is your main target audience, and how much of a spread beyond that do you feel is likely, first for your line(s), then for your most recent?</font>
  • What is the main thing about your company that makes you most proud?</font>
  • Where do you see your company one year from now?</font>
What five specific questions would you want to ask each of the Ancients, given your druthers? All suggestions would be welcome, and positive ones would be helpful. ;)

Yeah, but will they work as well for Loren, or Hunter, or Martin, etc.? I was looking for the same five questions I could ask them all.

Of course, this "same five questions" concept could just be a bad idea. But I don't know until I at least consider it, right?

I'll go over and look, then,
Flynn

Questions something like...

What is your favorite Classic Traveller character to play? Choose from; Navy, Marine, Army, Scouts, Merchants, or Other.

What is your favorite Classic Traveller starship? Choose from; Type S Scout/Courier, Type A Free-Trader, Type R Subsidized Merchant, Type M Subsidized Liner, Type Y Yacht, Type C Mercenary Cruiser, or Type T Patrol Cruiser.

Pick the right questions (not saying the above are the best examples ;) ) and the idea is not bad.

I can't find the questions that Fritz had mentioned above, but the following did occur to me. What do you guys think?

</font>
  • What appeals to you the most about Traveller? (i.e. Why do you enjoy it?)</font>
  • What had been your favorite Traveller-related experience? Why?</font>
  • What would you like to see in regards to Traveller over the next five years?</font>
That kind of thing,
Flynn

No, Flynn, you were right the first time - they would just be for MWM. And, they wouldn't be appropriate unless you were looking to do old 60 Minutes style journalism... :(

I really like the question about the next 5 years, though.

Suggested questiions

1: What makes traveller unique; what is its u.s.p?

2: Can one game continue to be so many different things to so many people? If so how? Has this diversity been an asset or a weakness to traveller over the years?

3: Is having a task system a help or a hinderence to role playing and why?

4: Why has traveller endured so long with a relatively small following? What is it that generates such loyalty and dedication?

5: How can traveller capitalise on the renewed interest in sci-fi generated by star wars?

Cheers.
