Forcelances

SOC-12
Any body design CT.... or even just traveller, come to think of it.... stats for one of these bad boys? If not, lets do some joint speculating till we get a working model. Who wants to start?

From Andromeda, right?
Well, it should be high TL (15+ or even 16+) - you'll need a VERY compact power-source and a VERY compact energy weapon (or is it Gauss? I know that Becca Valentine's pistols are Gauss, but I don't know about the Lances), packed into a quarterstaff and durable enough to be used in HtH combat.

Yes, Force Lances shoot microprojectiles. They can be configured to deliver electric shock by touch.

So basically they're melee-hardened Gauss rifles, right? with additional "effects". Gauss Rifle is TL-12, so the Force Lance would be TL-13 or, more likely, TL-14.

So basically, it is a tiny PGMP that is fit within a quarter staff. It also shoots tiny smart bullets and can be keyed to you DNA to prevent other people from using it. It would be fun, but i can't seem to make it work. if you need further info, see long extended definition below. In the show, they can also be remotely fired and can shoot from both extended and compact modes.

Official Definition from All Systems Library:
FORCE-LANCE: A primary tool and weapon of every High Guardsman, the Force-Lance (commonly called the F-Lance) looks like a harmless metallic tube approximately 1/3 meter in length. But when deployed for battle, it can be extended into a quarterstaff almost two meters long, and when used in melee, the F-Lance can be charged with an electrical current, shocking anyone it hits into unconsciousness. But the F-Lance is more than just a melee weapon. It can also fire a plasma beam, in both the extended and retracted position, which can be used in ranged combat, or as a cutting tool or light source. Finally, the F-Lance can launch a number of self-guided effectors (see effector).
EFFECTOR: Tiny attack drones launched by an F-Lance or similar weapon (see below) that can both target opponents and intercept incoming bullets and missiles.

Plasma beam? In a tiny tube? not in my Traveller game

But bear in mind that Andromeda's System Commonwealth was around TL 16 or even 17, so it might be appropriate for that settingt. IIRC, Force Lances weren't manufactured after the start of Andromeda's "Long Night" (and this is why everybody uses Gauss).

alright, it doesn't HAVE to be plasma, just an energy weapon. Lets say... 5D6 damage?... with a beating effect of 2d6+2 rolling a End or less on 2D6 to avoid unconciousness... and it would weigh about 2... 3 Kg? Cost about..... 2500 ImpCr?... add 500 for personalization DNA wise.... and 100 for Commercial Charge... with 50 shots... tech 15? yeah, good. Anybody have disagreements?

For a similar weapon without going quite that hightech. Leave out the Plasma for example, put a gauss weapon in a Boarding Axe from TA-1. The biometric security system, shooting mortar rounds with a gauss pistol equivalent weapon, intercepting enemy bullets with bullets, firing off bore, remote activation, instant plasma grenade, stun gun, lightning shots, plasma gun and big stick to beat someone over the head with is a bit much. Even at TL-16-17. The sensor suite in a F-Lance alone would take up about 10vls. Forget about powering it and actually mounting the guns.

I haven't played traveller that much. What is the boarding axe? put this all in CT lingo and i may understand a little better.

FWIW TA1 has the weapon in both CT and T20 stats*. It's a nasty double headed staff with a long spike on one end and swappable choice of an axe head or a shovel on the other end. Handle grip in the center. IIRC it's based on a similar concept from E.E. "Doc" Smith's classic Lensmen books. I don't have the figures in front of me to compare it directly with a Book 1-3 weapon but I'm thinking it's at least as good as a spear crossed with a broadsword. If not it should be.

So think twice about the ex-Barbarian with a shovel working in the cargo bay next time. ;)

* i.e. a plug for TA1, it's that good

[UPDATE] TL 8, 3D damage, 1.5kg. There used to be a list of TA1 weapons on here which would at least give you some basics.
