Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
The avengerenterprises.co.uk forums will be ported over to the www.travellerdiscussion.com forums soon. Expect to see the travellerdiscussion forums up in 24-48 hours. This will be the new home of Avenger anyway.
We do not know what will happen to CotI after July 18th, whether it goes down or stays up only Hunter knows. Dan Burns (Far-Trader) has offered to try and contact Hunter about this potential situation. I think that most people have accepted and approveed Dan's offer. Except for the notice on the website's front/home page I don't think there has been any contact with Hunter.
This thread is for discussions about which forum we (and by the we I mean the 300-400 members that make up a majority of the posts here on CotI) should generally agree to migrate to in order to maintain a primary message board for Traveller >IF AND WHEN< CotI closes down. In my starting post I suggested Children of the Earth forum since it was already set up in a manner similar to CotI with nearly identical categories and is (I assume) already paid for by it's creators. Martin suggested his Avenger forum and now he/it and Comstar are in the process of creating another broad category forum (I think). I was trying to avoid this for two reasons. One, if CotI stays afloat we don't need two competing forums that people have to check everyday to read the latest news and messages because we should concentrate on one primary board (IMO). Two, I was trying to avoid somebody have to spend money and time on setting up another server and create another board only to see it "fail" do to inactivity assuming that CotI continues past July 18th.
My idea with the suggestion was for the 200-300 members that post regularly to go ahead and either join CotE or at the least write down it's address for future reference in case CotI falls. Continue to make your primary posts here and if you are inclined to do so, cross-post on CotE as well. If CotI does go down then we have a place to post and meet and continue to discuss generally the same topics that were on CotI and the future of Traveller forums at that point in time.
Just for the record:
I dont think coti will go offline.
If it does, there are alternatives. Yes, i'm in favour of migration to the www.travellerdiscussion.com board, which is now up and running. We only set that up however, in case coti failed. People can still use it, but like most people, coti is our "home" and I no more want to switch than anybody else.
If you have a favorite or important thread you want to continue to discuss in the future you might want to make a copy of those posts to it onto your harddrive as a text file (or whatever) so you can restart/resume it on another board >if< COTI closes on July 18th.
If you have material in the f/library you might want to make sure that you have a back-up copy on your harddrive just in case COTI closes.
If CotI continues you can always delete them after July 18th or so.
