[French Traveller] Cover concepts ; opinions wanted

Maybe that's why I like them
.
Either way, I think they're better than black background with text and no pictures (I never did see why people get excited about the CT covers, they're boring as hell IMO).

Merci beaucoup, Phillipe.

On the Eye cover, I think a more normal eye color would help. Maybe, throw a silhouette on the pupil, perhaps?

Aslan or Vargr??

I like the first one very much - it's a beautiful, simple and evocative image that is well integrated into the classic Traveller style. The rest I'm not so excited about (especially the gear), although the general idea is a good one.

The great thing about the original Traveller covers is that they appear to have been prepared by someone who was comfortable with typography, and as a result they look very clean and well-designed. That cannot be said for any subsequent version of the game (maybe MT). It's like the Coca-Cola logotype: it might be kind of dull, and might cast a long shadow, but at the time it was perfect, and people remember that.

As such, I'd suggest you hire a typographer!

The first cover, for T01, is very nice.

Philippe, is this "French Traveller" based on Classic edition rules? Or T20? Or MT?

I am assuming it is based on CT, because you posted this in the Classic Traveller forum here.

That's CT.

The corebook will be the equivalent of :
- Traveller Book (except we're using the simplified space combat from Starter Traveller)
- Supplement 4 - Citizen of the Imperium
- Supplement 8 & 11 - Library Data
- "Aliens for Traveller" booklet

First supplement, "Contacts" will be a compilation of the "Contact" articles from the JTAS (details about aliens).

Second supplement, "La Terre et le Feu", will be a compilation of :
- Alien Module 6 - Solomani
- Supplement 10 - The Solomani Rim
- Short Adventure from Double Adventure 3 : Argon Gambit
- Adventure 13 - Signal GK

"Machines" (maybe the 3rd supplement, maybe not) will contain :
- Book 8 - Robots
- Supplement 7 - Traders & Gunboats
- maybe Fighting Ships (not sure at all)

Just an honest opinion: I agree with Crow. I don't like them very much.

They don't seem "Traveller-ry" to me--more like "Kubrick's 2001 RPG" or something.

I don't think that's a very helpful criticism though, because nobody seems to agree on what a "Traveller-y look" actually *is*.

I think the "school text book" look fits CT quite well to be honest. IMO the game reads like a textbook as it is, and it's a lot better than what I think are the terribly dull black covers with text, and I think it's high time people moved beyond those old blank covers. And they're certainly more eyecatching than the basic CT covers too.

I think the covers here work because they are pretty generic, and the game itself is pretty generic too. If he'd put some actual scenes on the covers (say, a guy meeting a shady character in an alley for the Contacts book) then I'm quite certain that people would be complaining that it "doesn't look like CT". That sort of inertia doesn't really help... at least this way it DOES look like the old CT books, but with a little extra.

I actually like the yellow one (but that might be my preference for scouts subliminally influencing me). I recognised it straight away - and then I thought "Eye? Contacts? Geddit?!"
