Personally, being slightly paranoid, and a firm believer in having lots of concrete between you and the potential nasties, I prefer these. Not fancy, but nice and solid.

As in our shared world, 'local' weather and other environmental factors determine the choices made in architecture for business or residential needs.

That said, in-on worlds where the more savage elements have been tamed or regulated, there would be no 'ceiling' of heights (or depths) such might reach.
