Pretty cool. I was also able to zoom in and out with my scroll wheel and holding the left button allowed dragging the map to check out other areas.

I was wondering if that was the perspective. So it's us looking through the disc, the bump in the middle is the core and the left and right edges connect to form the halo of the thinner edge behind us (if looking coreward)?

Barring further explanation from the source, take that as the assumption.

If you zoom in enough, in the right place, there's sure to be some hot BEM on BEM action somewhere.

Look for one of Harlan Ellison's "disgusting things." There's always a lot of activity around them.
