Get a "GRIP"?

I'm an old CT'er myself (from 1977). Yes I'm an ol fart. How about 8pm CST Thur or Fri, or 9pm CST Fri? I'm not as computer savy as these youngsters so please bear with me. I'm very interested in how it plays from a PC and ref standpoint.

If you don't mind, please share with us your observations after you go through this test run.

Thanks,
Flynn

We on for tonight? I just realized that tommorrow night "Firefly"'s back (but it'll be over before 9cst).

I reloaded yahoo messenger but had to go invisible cause I was gettin' bugged to death by an old friend tonight ... lol ... I think he's had a few.

The last time I used GRIP, it was about 6 months ago and I found the interface really clunky and with a few showstopping bugs. Has this changed any bit with the latest version? Or is there even a current version?

There are two other online pen and paper RPG running programs that I know of:
OpenRPG
http://www.openrpg.com/

and

Screenmonkey http://www.nbos.com/products/screenmonkey/screenmonkey.htm

Of particular interest is OpenRPG, which is completely free.

OK, guys.
No offense, but I don't wanna post my IP for all to see

So, email me at dcote_csi@hotmail.com and I'll send it to you, along with my version of the character record sheet.

How about 2000 hours MST (2100 CST, 2200 EST, 1900 PST) or about an hour from now?

EDIT: iGM server is open in listen mode.. drop me a line if you want to see it in action. Not trying to sell anyone, just want folks to have the chance to make a fair assessment. My game group is either out of state or it's a 40-60 minute drive across Greater Phoenix, and we feel our time is better used by gaming online. And Trader Jim is right; it's not for everyone : )

Ok ... the good and the bad ... so far.

I'll get the bad outa the way:

It's a system resource hog. My system only had 34% of it's resources free while running GRIP and IE.

It does have some glitches. At one point when Dean was showing me how the proggie works, it locked down hard (apparently from my leaving whisper mode windows open - shut them - do not leave them open).

That's the worst of it from what I've seen.

The good:

The diceroll/task system is worth it if nothing else. One click roll and result.

The player sheet and data management is good.

The gm can manage to portray many npcs (in character) at once .. apparently effortlessly (gotta be honest - Dean was GMing so my pov was on the recieving end).

I give it a thumbs up at about the 82% mark (knowing that further tweaking and enhancements may be in it's future affects this).

Nevertheless .... I encourage everyone to give the player proggie a try. It's free - nothing to lose. Even giving the gm version a try's worth it - 60 days free. But if we wanna try it as a group, we may wanna alternate trying the gm ver so we can evaluate it for a good while.

I like it. ShruG

Any other feedback to be had on the use of GRIP for online gaming? Can anyone compare it to OpenRPG or WebRPG? Has anyone tried NBOS's ScreenMonkey and perhaps could compare it as well?

Just looking at options for some friends up north,
Flynn
