Oh Yes!

Possibly the only Drake book I enjoyed (perhaps because I was still a teen and still had to discover what real combat was all about) and we're going to get a Traveller version.

Should be good fun in a totally cabbage way.


ETA: "cabbage" person that takes excessive interest in military procedures and ironmongery from "dressing up like a cabbage", wearing camouflage fatigues.

I resemble that remark, well, mostly, till Panama, had a friend in the 1/75th at the time, kinda put the chill on it for me.

Still, sadly still a bit of a cabbage and the Slammer's Rock. They are my base for Imperial Armour Units. Say does anyone remember Falkenberg's Legion though?

I do. A great series of military science fiction, even if John Christian Falkenberg was sometimes a little too perfect for me. Jerry Pournelle writes the greatest plots but his characters are often too cardboard.

I have to agree with this 100%. I love many of the ideas and story lines but the characters are some times too 2D for me.

But if you are looking for ideas to steel from, they are great!

I have no idea what most of this thread is about. I've had my MGT book just over a week. Is there something in this thread about MGT that I'm missing? Or is this a conversation about a different version of Traveller and just in the wrong section of the forums?

Just talking about the recent announcement by Mongoose (which I can't find now ) that they had signed David Drake to do a Hammer's Slammers story or some such for MGT (mercenary presumably).

Yup, it was on the Planet Mongoose Blog where, yes, they have signed up to do a Hammer's Slammers game based on MGT amongst other excellent Traveller announcements.

The big guns in the HS universe are not exactly traveller tech... unobtanium stuff. But close enough to fusion guns for most purposes, and the lack of gravitics results in ground effect vehicles.

I'll note, too, that LKW once told us all on the TML that the GDW boys got the idea for Book 4 Mercenary right after finishing that exact book.

I personally would prefer to have MGT do an RCN book/series instead of Hammer's Slammers; I tried the HS anthology and couldn't get past ten pages.
