Honor Harrington

I WAS looking forward to the next book coming out in March, but now.....

....tear slips down face......

Really though, I too enjoyed the early books, kind of prefered the setting/background info for the middle series, got confused with the Eric Flint/Shadow of Saganami/ HH split, Now interested in seeing how the three series integrate into a "canon" HH universe.

Could they be better? Probably. Are they good background for a Traveller type setting? Yes.
Are people confused by the multiple theme background? Oh yeah.

I thought that HH was the third highest MILITARY RANKED officer. Not 3rd ranked in the peerage. Of course I've been studying hermeneutics, so I tend to catch things like that, while someone who miss reads put it on WIKI as fact.

I'm glad you like the series. I think it's horrid, but I recognized a long time ago that not everyone is going to share my opinions.

As regards your advanced knowledge of hermeneutics, you have yet to demonstrate through textual analysis any reason why you are more trustworthy than the wikipedia authors. While they may certainly be incorrect, they at least have the following indicia of reliability that you presently do not, namely that they there are several people who contributed to the article, thereby at least allowing for the possibility of peer review, and they have demonstrated a reasonable accuracy in the other sections, allowing a rebuttable inference of quality. In fact, all you've done is dispute one section with a conclusion based on the assumption that the wiki authors must have confused her military rank with her noble rank, without supplying any evidence at all.

Honorverse

I enjoyed the first few books a great deal. Books 7 through 9 are okay. IIRC 'In Enemy Hands' was the weakest of those.

I found book 10, War of Honor, to be an absolute stinker. It's a huge book. It pretty much killed my Honor Harrington reading for a good while. I own the next two books but have yet to read them.

As for the Saganami Island spinoffs, I've tried 3 times to read Shadows of saganami (another slab), and given up 3 times.

The other spin offs, co-written with Eric Flint 'Crown of Slaves' is excellent, the second one I haven't got to yet.

I read the first 4 Honorverse short story collections, and found them to be okay, but variable. I hate treecats, so there were some annoying stories in there, but generally worth picking up once you're done with the main storyline. I haven't picked up the 5th Collection yet.

I have yet to read the Juvenile Honor Harrington book he stuck out. Might have too many treecats for me.

The Weber/Ringo 'Prince Roger' series is also an excellent read.
