How do you become an Imperial Citizen in the game?

Lets say a barbarian from some low tech non-Imp world manages to get offworld and makes it to some Imperial world/territory after some travels.

He decides he likes it and wants to settle down.

How can he become and Imperial citizen, does one apply? Is there a naturalization period? etc.

I presume that if you are born from Imperial parents that you are a citizen. What if you have non-Impy parents and are born on an Imperial world
and/or territory?

I imagine one way is to have citizenship granted as a reward from a member of the nobility, but what about the good old fashion bureaucratic method?

IMTU the imperium doesn't have general citizenship. an imigrant becomes a citizen of a world first, and relates to the Imperium via that legal status. each world sets its own immigration policies.

First off, I'm not an expert on the legalities of citizenship. Having said that, I am aware of a number of different methods of achieving citizenship for various countries on this ball of rock. Citizenship can either be automatically granted due to circumstances, or applied for. The following are the methods I'm aware of:

1) Granted citizenships due to parentage - some countries recognize that a child born of non-national parents would automatically be granted the citizenship of its parents, and do not contest that fact. Of course, there is then the legal implications of the parent's country recognizing the child's citizenship.
2) Granted citizenship due to where the child is born, regardless of parentage - some country's citizenships are automatically granted to children born within a specific territory, regardless of the parent's home country. This can lead to legal issues regarding custody, emigration, immigration, etc. Location can also be extended to property owned/operated by/from a particular country (eg., a child born on an airplane may be automatically granted the citizenship of the airplane company's registered home office location).
3) Citizenship can be applied for after a required number of years of living in a location has passed. Citizenship tests still have to be written and passed, fees paid, etc. Being a citizen within a particular area that is associated with a larger legal entity may eventually allow full membership to that larger entity (eg., the old British Empire - being a citizen of Canada would also make one a citizen of the Empire. The modern equivalent would be the British Commonwealth).

Of course, with citizenship comes certain responsibilities (paying taxes, supporting local laws, upholding moral fabrics, etc.). And don't forget that citizenship is not usually considered a "right" but a "priviledge", and is subject to revocation if necessary.
 
I'm with flykiller on this one. Citizenship on an Imperial world determines citizenship in the Imperium.

Of course, Imperial worlds may have some core citizenship requirements imposed upon them from the Imperium anyway...
 
Questions:

How would the records of Imperial Citizenship be effectively kept, and kept updated? We are talking about a LOT of sophonts... all moving from world to world.

What if you are born in Space?

Why would the value system for citizenship be the same as it is now?

Wouldn't the overflow of individual details and variables make the legal procedure for aqquiring citizenship totally unweildly on a large scale? And by large I mean HUMONGOUS.

What role do all those "Other" Class Characters with all those levels of Forgery play in all this?
 
about monituring citizens is about the same way they monitor ships only exclude the transponder.
