How Many Subsectors in the 3rd Imperium

If you only count subsectors with enough Imperial worlds to warrant stationing an Imperial fleet in it, the answer is about 300.

Sounds about right -- MT's Rebellion Sourcebook (ca. 1116) mentions 320 subsectors?

It mentions 320 regular fleets. From memory it says something like 'stationed one per subsector', which certainly imply the existence of 320 subsectors. But I've counted them, and it comes to around 300 (I can't remember the exact figure).

Core subsector has four fleets stationed. Corridor has either 16 or 20 (evidence is confusing) in ten subsectors. And 13 of the fleets (the 77th, 118th, 131st, 189th, 256th, 274th, 303rd, 315th, 316th, 317th, 318th, 319th, and 320th) doesn't show up anywhere on the map or in the text.

(OTOH, eight of them show up twice (the 108th, 128th, 179th, 193th, 212th, 214th, 255th, and 260th) and one (the 213th) shows up in three places! ;) )

"The Imperium has almost 320 active Numbered Fleets, which is approximately one per subsector.
This expensive doctrine was first instituted by Emperor Artemsus to back his politically sensitive Pacification Campaigns."
