COMMENTS: An offshoot of the DEMPAC* project, Famille Spofulam's MONGOOSE class heavy fighter was proposed as a stopgap measure to enhance the firepower of anti-piracy units of the Imperial Navy prior to the adoption of a replacement for the GAZELLE class close escort.** The MONGOOSE is dimensionally identical to the standard 20-ton gig and may be carried in its place. Adoption of the MONGOOSE class heavy fighter is considered likely as a senior Famille Spofulam executive, a former naval intelligence officer from Regina, is close to Emperor Strephon and is also a member of the Imperial household staff with the title of Kitchen Staff Supervisor.***

The MA-DEUCE replicates most of the features of the CHAUCHAT but will be constructed to the Tech Level-15 Imperial Navy standard. The proposed vessel was originally called the CHAUCHAT-II until someone in the senior corporate staff suggested that it would be easier to sell the
proposed ship to the navy if it were named after a successful machine gun instead of a well known (even in the present day) piece of junk. A rather ugly altercation later broke out in the marketing department between the group responsible for selling the MONGOOSE to the navy and their counterparts selling the MA-DEUCE, which unfortunately disturbed the sleep of one the senior (we're not sure if this is correct) corporate executives who was residing in the corporate headquarters on Capital and also making necessary the complete renovation of three floors of the building. The surviving members of the marketing department were subsequently reassigned to a project involving the extremely close observation of hyper-density astronomical phenomena.
*** Which is a rather odd title since the Imperial Palace does not have a civilian kitchen staff. All dietary and catering functions in the palace are carried out by the Navy's Life Support-Nutrition department.
