Imperial Stock Number

'Historically' linking MTU ISN to the real world NSN...
  • The Federal Stock Number system originated in the Terran United States Department of War before or during the Terran Second World War and was used from -2572 until -2546 to identify items contained within the Joint Army-Navy Catalog System.
  • In -2546, the FSN was renamed National Stock Number.
  • The National Stock Number was renamed NATO Stock Number upon its adoption, in -2532, by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a Terran mutual defense alliance.
  • Having become an essential part of many armed forces logistic system, the NSN system survived, under varions names, the collapse of the NATO.
  • In -2396, the newly formed Terran Confederation Armed Forces adopted the NSN system, with little modification, renaming it Confederation Stock Number.
  • The advent of the Second Imperium saw massive evolution of the system, in order to cope with the addition of huge ammounts of new items to the Terran inventory caused by the absorption of the Vilani Empire. Again, the system was renamed: Imperial Stock Number.
  • This new system proved robust enough to survive the collapse of the Second Imperium and the following Long Night. It is still used today, virtually unchanged, by the various services of the Imperium.

When their empire fell they didn't get the chance to complain.

Anyway, either that or reinventing the wheel and a whole new catalog system for the Imperial services logistic needs... I've made my choice.

This is great Hans. I'm working to flesh out a military campaign now and was using NSNs in my equipment lists. This gives me the justification.

I'm going to change it to ISN though.
