Insults of the Imperium

To a Vargr:

Is that a neck tie or a flea collar you got on there...?

Hey, last time I saw you, you were wearing a head cone. I guess you got over your being neutered did you?

Again, those are not likely to work on Vargr because the Vargr won't get the joke to be able to take offense.

I think the head cone thing might work. As man travels into space, he will take his canine brethren with him. Thusly surely Vargr will see canines with head cones on after surgery.

Not particularly likely that they would, on either score.

Taking another terran mammalian species adds a considerable number of additional vectors for local biome to reach humans. Of the various species we take with us, canines are amongst the top 10... and probably #1. (I'd expect horses, cats, and rats in the top 10 as well, tho' the rats may not be intentional.)

Most vargr, however, are unfamiliar with Humans other than as an abstract.
It's unlikely any given Vargr will have seen a Terran canid other than the ones "native" to Lair. And given the areas of primary overlap, they're Vliani influenced. Reducing the odds further.

And even if a Vargr has seen a genuine terran animal, how many of the will have been injured? (I've seen maybe 30 animals equipped with cones myself, and owned 3 of those... and the rest were at the veterinarian's office.)

In general, injured animals aren't common in public view.

I think I would disagree some. We tend to take our animals with us, and I think if a world proved it could sustain man and his animals, then dogs would be a natural companion regardless of disease or support factors.

To me it just seems likely that canines will be around in the Marches and elsewhere.

Ergo the doggie insults.

"May you live in interesting times."

"May your Jump Drive malfunction."

"May you suffer from Monsters from the Id."

This would be more imprecations than insults.

"So, what lost colony did you crawl out from?" A good general purpose one, implying the victim is either uneducated, low-tech, or from a limited gene pool.

For Vargr, you could always show them your nice new fur coat you just bought and imply it was someone they knew, maybe a relative...
