Contest 24 specs have been posted:

--------------------------------------------------
A secure Imperial Navy briefing room. A rear admiral walks to
a lectern while two armed marines close the doors. The audience,
civilians and a few reserve officers, looks ill at ease at this
display of firepower.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!
First, I want to thank all of you that you could find the time
to attend this conference. For the record, the conference and
all proceedings are classified most secret. You have all been
briefed what this means.
We invited you for a fresh look at the data which we have
collected on the new Darrian cruisers. Now where are the ... ah,
yes ... you'll have to sign for the folders. Just the raw data,
we don't want you biased by the results of our own analyst. This
is supposed to be a second opinion.
Perhaps we should start with a brainstorm. Take a few minutes
to read the documents and then write a short estimate of their
capabilities."

Contest 24 calls on you to write an Imperial intelligence
estimate of a Darrian Barekdoldin-class cruiser. Facts:
* It can be assumed that the technology level exceeds that of
the current Imperial Navy and it may reach the old pre-Maghiz
Darrian levels. That would make it classic TL16 or GTL13.
* Not being TL16/GTL13, the Imperium has no clear idea what this
TL means. If you want to add higher-TL systems, who is to call
you wrong. (Read: go higher if that is necessary for a good
story/design. Prepare for hard questions from the crowd.)
* The Darrians decided to call the class a cruiser.
* Barekdoldins wiped out a Swordic base with pinpoint ortillery
fire.

This one sounds like much fun, especialy if you like high tech. So come on over and join the fun.

Bump

Note that the dead line is May 10th.

Also please remember that the JTAS contests are NOT just for GURPS designs but for all Traveller design systems.

The entries are in! There seems to be 3 GURPS entries and 1 HG entry. Check out the designs on the GURPS list here at CotI, or better go over to JTAS.

What no one did a T20 entry? No FF&S (1 or 2) or B2 either!

I know that there are people on this list that design in these systems. Come on lets make this a real contest next time. :D

Yeah, like Tom (it was Tom I think), I ran aground on other commitments and didn't finish mine (which is T20'ish ;) ). I almost rushed it together at the last minute when Onno left the window open but I was too tired. This week/end is just as busy but I will be voting and IF I can find the motivation I'll post my would-a-been here in The Fleet.

I'm guessing no one did a FF&S workup since that's what it was originally in, and B2 really would be a stretch

Also I kind of had an idea from the interest here on CotI that there'd be a lot more than 4 entries this go around so I wasn't as worried about not getting mine in. Not that 4 is not enough.

I will find time to look and vote. I thought one of them looked like a T20 version in my quick glance, might have been HG I guess. Oh well, next time

I was trying to get to design one as well, in T20 but I ran out of time. I will look for the next verison. BTW - how large was this design meant to be? Or are there no limits to designs in these JTAS competitions?

Hi Michael,

The contest requirements vary at the whim of the host. Each contest winner becomes the host of the next contest and is pretty free to pick whatever they'd like, the caveat being you need the others to participate so you have to pick something that will get them hooked ;)

In this case it was to be modelled on an existing design of 500 tons, though some leeway was allowed iirc.

Unless you were meaning the length of the submission in which case there really isn't one to my knowledge, though a 20,000 word treatise would probably overload the readers who have to vote on it
