Kind of a noob checking in

While I've had Classic Traveller and Traveller 2300 since the late 80's, and bought TNE a few years ago, I've never got around to play, and never bothered with Third Imperium.

Well, I bought the 5.09 PDF a couple of years ago, and since the Kickstarter for 5.10 I kind of got into kind of a frenzy. So besides waiting for the 5.10 physical books and the GURPS and HERO Traveller disks, I have a few books from other editions. Can't have to many RPG books, right? :D

I've been looking at a few different versions of Traveller spaceship creation rules, and been reading a bit about Third Imperium culture both from the books and on the net (including this forum). :coffeesip:

Considering I'm a compulsive habit of modding RPG systems and tend to mix and mash, odds are I will end up with something unrecognizable. :p

So... My first post, and Hello everyone :)

Welcome aboard, Lundgren. You will find out that we are a good group to be in, even if we do disagree a lot with each other.

And no, you can never have too many RPG books. :):):coffeesip::coffeegulp:

Thanks for the welcome :)

...even if we do disagree a lot with each other.
Heh, I can't even agree with myself  :nonono: But I'm good at agreeing to disagree :D

After all, learning about how other people do stuff is fodder for new thoughts, and the only situation where everyone needs to be on the same page is if they are around the same gaming table :)

Well, that's the point of friendly a discussion, isn't it?

If we agree i neverything this would be boring, as is from listening (or reading) disagreeing words that one can learn things...

Welcome! And as Traveller has been around quite some time I think most people tend to mix and match. As with many RPGs. I doubt I've ever played 100% RAW on anything other than solitaire perhaps :)

This is quite true, although the stridency with which folks claim you only need LBB1-3 tends to grow directly in proportion to the number of traveller books they actually own.

Hail and well met Lundgren.

I usually still play off the Little Black Books (and supplements, adventures, games, aliens, Judges Guild, Paranoia Press and other such material of the time) I bought starting in the fall of 1977.

I own most all the other versions, at least the core rule book.

My Traveller Universe is a kit bash of elements from several of them, along with a little Space Opera, but 90% Classic Traveller with house rules.

I have a 5 shelf unit that is mostly Traveller across the aisle in my library from my DnD collection that started with the Little Brown Books I got with my Christmas 1975 money.

Welcome to the Spinward marches Lundgren. Most of us have extensive collections of RPG material. I for one am facinated by the detailed ship design rules found in TNE and T4's Fire Fusion and Steel, with a few kit bashing rules from T5 thrown in to account for the inefficiencies of using experimental tech.

Look at our signatures we use on these postings, they specify what that poster is interested in in our wide spectrum of traveller editions.

I don't have the link at hand, but you may want to point him to a document or webpage that has the IMTU codes defined.

Welcome. I'm coming up on a year of Travelling since I picked up the free pdf CT Starter Set at DriveThruRPG (which is still available ). That was my gateway drug to acquiring a fair amount of LBBs from eBay. :) Lots of wholesome good stuff on this board.

Thanks for all the welcomes :)

I can decipher about a third of it, and probably guess another third.

Three more days until my 5.10 kickstarter package will arrive; and I've just ordered a bunch of MgT 2nd ed books as well (some I previously had as PDFs).

Just a point here, though I guess you'd realized it already:

Traveller 2300 has nothing to do with Traveller.

It's a different universe, with different physics (no gravity, different FTL travel approach, etc.) and different rules and setting.

A minor nit-pick:

It's a different universe, with different physics (no gravity. . .

I think you wanted to say no gravity-control or gravitics. A universe without gravity truly would be a different universe with different physics.

The only way I would have not knowing that would be either that I never read them, or starting dementia. :p But as the site covers 2300 and Twilight 2000 (which I also have) as well, I found it worth mentioning.

Calling it 2300AD is a novelty idea I'm not used to :D :coffeesip:

In fact I wanted to write Gravitics, but you're right

Yay! My 5.10 box arrived at the pickup point today instead of on Monday. :)

Plans for the evening... Flipping through the books.

Big evil grin!!!

I have materials from every edition from Classic to 5.1.
We are wealthy in the materials we have to work with for our gaming.
