CT Only: LBB:0 Hidden Setting

When I randomly generate a high population on an inhospitable worlds, two things I consider are aliens and machine life. The population doesn't have to be human (unless that works better for YTU, natch!)

If I ever do a second draft of Hawa, I may add aliens or uplifts to the interior hypersaline sea.

I know most people here are Old School By-The-Book people and would not appreciate me fiddling with UPPS so I'll just do it in my own campaign.

"By the book"...

The purpose of the world generation sequence can best be seen as a prod to the imagination. Even the most imaginative individual soon loses brilliance in the face of creating hundreds of individual worlds. The procedure substitutes die rolls for random imagination and then allows the referee to use that information to determine specific world data. Imagination may be required to explain a tech level 4 civilization in an asteroid belt, or a high population world with a participating democracy for a government.

As a prod the system only gets the Referee's imagination going. There's nothing either Old School or "by the book" about being stuck with a WPP you don't like. That's simply masochism.

Different Referees will have different points where their imagination stops having fun or "loses briliance" making an explanation of a given UPP, but there's nothing to suggest in the text that the Referee is stuck with such a WPP. I tend to keep going with a WPP until I sort it out... but I don't assume everyone wants, willl, or should do this.

As for focusing allowing for multiple worlds, Book 3 says...

This world creation process applies only to the single inhabited world in a star system; additional planets in a system should be generated as necessary

So, again, it is up the Referee to decide how far he or she wants to to in creating environments. There are no dictates in the Classis Traveller rules. Only starting points for the Refree and Players to begin with and expand from based on their interests and fun.

Modern gamers are so scairt of making their own stuff.

Back in the 70s we didn't have supplement this and world that, we just had small rulebooks that said DIY, and we made worlds and dungeons and walked uphill through howling snowstorms in summer uphill BOTH WAYS....

and we liked it that way.
