Living Traveller - What is the status???

Maybe a particular star cluster could be designated as the starting point for all characters. Not the Linkworlds, as it would need to contain a large number of systems to give a broad base of UWPs. But that would put everyone in close proximity to each other starting out, and increase the probability of interaction.
Actually, I think the Linkworlds would be a good base area. I'd have to read it again to see if there is a nice spread of system flavours, but it's a free download for new players and doesn't have too many systems. Scenarios could be set anywhere and not cost too many TU's to get to. News within the cluster could quickly spread to the other systems.

My main experience with Living campaigns is Living Force and IMO that seems to work OK within just one system.

I guess this is a case of great minds think alike?

I've been in discussions with my gaming club about setting up a living-style Traveller campaign. BTW not RPGA based, Magma Gamers already has a Call of Cthulu campaign running and is initiating a super hero campaign this month.

Assuming we succeed in doing this, it wouldn't come online until January 2004 at the earliest. There's just too much work to do to get it off the ground sooner. That being said, part of the work to do is finding volunteers to help put this beast together. Anybody interested in helping out?

Angus,

Please count me in. I'd love to see some form of Living Traveller evolve, particularly under the suggestions made in this forum.

As I understand it, it's being explored on a regional level as a test, but I haven't heard anything on it in months, myself.

I do hope it comes to pass, though,

IIRC, all RPGA campaigns MUST use d20 rules now. That would eliminate the older systems as options.

But good lord, if this happens I am SO in. I'd be more than willing to help out.

There is only ONE problem with having a living Traveller game.

We love the idea and we think it would help grow the game base...

Do you hear the "but" coming?

But, we've been approached by several persons who say they want to try and run it, but nohing ever comes of it.

I personally don't even know what it takes to start a living game. Or what is needed to keep it going etc etc...

Allowing a 42 point buy for attributes is fine but you should be aware that this will allow everyone who wants a psionic character to create a high PSI and will allow everyone who doesn't want a psionic character to use PSI as a dump stat (assign a very low value to is so they have more points for everything else). This may affect play balance.

I think psi would only be generated if you took the Psi specific feats. Then you could ROLL your PSI stat. With witnesses. Or have it set to a default number based on age.

PSI is never generated randomly unless you take the feats or are tested.

Until then it's a null.

I really like the idea of point buy, it's been used well in the other games. That would be a starting point.

I know that, at the present time, I don't have the time nor resources to dedicate to coordinating a Living T20 campaign, but I'd love to run the games, play in them, and perhaps even write some modules for it.

The only growth I've seen in this area was with CT and a regional gaming organization. Nothing T20, though...
