Looking for 500T or 600T Merchant Deckplan Etc

sadismo

SOC-4
Hi everyone. Running a Megatraveller campaign and want to move my group into a larger (500T or 600T) merchant vessel with a Jump 2 or possibly even Jump 3 capability. Ideal design would have 6 crew staterooms, 8+ passenger staterooms, a decent sized ship's boat, and a 6-8 passenger air/raft or ATV, with at least 200T cargo capacity. I was also looking at the stretched R2 or RL versions of the far trader as possible options if someone has a deckplan laying around. :) The vessel does not need to be armed, as the group can salvage and transfer a couple of turrets from their existing ship. Also, I am not a purist, and would be happy to use a deckplan and ship specs from any of the Traveller versions.

Would really appreciate some help on this one, as I have scoured the net and CoTI and cannot seem to find a suitable deck plan. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I suggest the Classic Traveller plans for the Empress Marva since IIRC* the deckplan grid count comes out as being a 400 dTon ship, then double the height in the cargo bay (bumping the ship up to the 500-600 dTon range) and then just use Book 2 to restat the ship to 600 dTons and J2/M2.

[* Someone will correct me if my recollection is wrong. ;) ]

Suggestions (all of the mMT, as you say is the rules set you're using):

Empres Marva plans from GDP (400 J2 trader)

Subsized Lineer ship (plans on Assignment Vigilante!). 600 dton J3 lineer.

Not sure where can you find those suplements with the deckplans on htem, though...

FASA Merchant Class Ships

You might browse the old set of FASA Merchant Class Ships available from FFE, several ships there that might fit your needs.

I wish I had my Traveller stuff here (instead of in storage 300 miles away),... there is a 600dt merchant design with deck plan in issue #5 of High Passage magazine - the Fortune class starship.

Hi

You can get ACS 1 from Drivethru, which has the 500 ton Maru class J2 Merchant,

Kind Regards

did you find what you were looking for? if not I could draw up something for you. some examples of what I do are in the signature links below.

The original FASA ACS sets included the Maru, a 500 ton merchant. It makes the Marava look like a beauty queen, but it is in your size range.

A little known gaming zine called Variant did a number of not-quite Traveller ships, including a roughly 300 ton cargo ship. I scaled that one up to 600 tons for a game a while back.
Not pretty, but I've put it in the Gallery. http://www.TravellerRPG.com/CotI/Gallery/index.php?n=1654

There was a write-up for the Maru here on COTI a while back, admittedly it is a pig of a boat but that's really it's charm and what makes it a good choice for use as a player-character vessel.

And correcting my error, it is in FASA's Adventure Class Ships, not the FASA Merchant Class Ships set.

Another option might be taking the 800 Ton Broadsword Class Mercenary Cruiser and converting the ship over to a combination passenger transport-freight hauler.

A given the ship's a big larger than your general outline but a Broadsword now operating as a merchant vessel might have a charm of it's own and offer opportunities a more traditional tradesman might not.

LOTS of possibilities there - the modular cutters make great interplanetary shuttles, allowing the "merchant cruiser" to refuel from a gas giant while the cutters travel to planets/belts in the system to do business.

While cargo capacity is not great (but could be increased by removing the troop accommodation), the J3 capability allows for voyages to systems normally inaccessible to small traders. If you don't require a "precipitating mass" for jump exit, you could even remove the J3 plant and install a J2 to save a bit more space, while keeping the 3-jump fuel capacity.

Or the ship could be used by a traveling circus, theatre company, set of musical groups, etc.

I'm seeing the 'civilian' Broadsword as somewhat renovated model, the smaller J-drive & powerplant suggested by BlackBat242 being a likely 'standard' feature.

Also a reduction in the number of turrets from eight (8) down to six (6) and such relocated for better coverage around-along the ship's axis.

One major refit might be removal of the cutter module bays, that in itself would recover quite a lot of space for increased passenger-freight capacity.

More radical would be removing the cutter bays themselves and still be able to berth two (2) 30 Ton Ship's Boats or a pair of 20 Ton Launches in smaller dedicated 'hangers'.

All said, with a few teeth pulled and a bit of reconstructive 'surgery', A kinder friendlier Broadsword might be a viable option.

And in one of the Space Gamer magazines (see that thread in the Lone Star I believe) had a 600 ton trader, I think. Can't recall which one, but I'm pretty sure I saw one. Definitely saw a 100 ton yacht spec'd out.
