If I interpret the rules correctly, if you change prior histories, you start off without a commission at rank 1. This seems a little silly in some cases, particularly if you retired from a service career. I would imagine that someone who retired as a Marine O3 would be able to sign on somewhere between O2 and O4 as a mercenary, and possibly as an O1 or O2 as a professional working for an arms company. Similarly for ex-Navy becoming Merchants. I'ld like to see some DCs for initial rank when changing careers. Perhaps in a Traveller's Aid.
