In the new High Guard book, Meson screens are described as stopping 2D of damage (per effect on the screen check) or 1DD if 5 screens are used. This means that Meson screens can potentially stop *a lot* of damage from a spinal mount where each DD is multiplied by 1000.
In the capital ship rules, however, a spinal mount has damage equal to its number of DD dice * 10 000 (which will admittedly be divided by 10 to construct the fleet measure of damage). In contrast, a Meson screen contributes a screen defence of 5, multiplied by the skill of the crew. This means that a meson screen is largely going to be ineffectual against a spinal mount meson gun.
Which is correct? Should meson screens not shop spinal mount DDs in the regular rules? Or should meson screens get extra stopping power against spinal mounts in the fleet rules (my guess is that it would need to be scaled up by 100 to be consistent with the regular ship combat rules)?
Or am I missing the plot entirely?
