Modern House Rules for Chargen

If someone will make a program out of my chargen system, I'll be VERY grateful

Truth be told, once I'll have major free time I intend to learn either JAVA or Visual Basic myself; my only programming experience is from my childhood and with long-dead languages such as Turbo Pascal and QuickBasic (of which I remember little, mostly the principles of "structured programming" - or whatever this is called).

By the way, which is better to learn? VB or Java? I could get learning guides for both. IIRC Java doesn't require an expensive compiler, and that will save me the trouble of getting VB if that's true (which I could get for free - enough friends of mine have learned it but don't use it anymore, but still it is a hassle).

An updated version of my CharGen system is available here. I've corrected several typos and added several clarifications.

Oh, Neil Ford, if you intend to convert it into PDF (I'll be very grateful if you do
), please watch the page transitions - each "set" of CharGen tables should be in its own page, as I've done in the DOC.

By the way, I think that IMTU the Barbarian career would be VERY rare - most people from low-tech worlds would use the Colonist career instead. Remember that most low-tech worlds IMTu are not isolated - while their local manufacturing TL might be low, they import a certain amount of outer higher TL tech.

Think of Acheron in the Aliens movie. it was a 200-person (approximately) colony, with very limited manufacturing capabilities (if at all) but was equipped to TL12 or so - all or most imported by Wayland-Yutani Inc. to the world.
