Modular Freighters: Concept Proposal

I just posted my idea original design for a container ship in Starships. The design is built a round a standard hull with cargo pods mounted to the sides. The designs lacks the ability to expand the load any further than 200 tons. Thus making your basic Traveller style frieghter.

I posted this for comparasion to what I'm trying to accomplish now...

Just a little heads-up: There is a modular design in the Judges Guild product "Doom of the Singing Star". It features a 36k dton 'coreship' (1G/J5), and three 'moduleships' (1G/J1) capable of independant operation. Combined they are 1G/J3, and cargo/passenger capacity varies with specific moduleship. Deck plans are perpendicular to direction of flight (like the AHL).

The design is up in Spacecrafts.

The Alpha Class Cargo Container Transport is an early design of a modular cargo transport and the basis for all the rest of the ships in this class. Designed in the late Industral Period (Present day), it became the work horse for civilizations who took a progressive outlook on space. The main purpose of the Alpha was to establish a base on the homeworld's closest moon.

I posted the Voyager Class Research Vessel because it is a logical progression of a spacecraft of this class. Cultures would use modular designs because they could be mounted on rockets for the trip into space or places on aerospace lift bodies (space shuttles) to get them into orbit.

General design Notes:

Duration: Based on consumbles means that since the craft is equiped with solar panels the only thing preventing the vessel from lasting indefinitely is the amount of food, water and oxygen it can carry.

Fuel: 45 Tons Hylox (Burn 4.5 days) this means the vessel can burn it main engines for a time period of 4.5 days. Since Classic Traveller has a forumal for travel between worlds, most of it time would be coasting after it achieved it's max velocity.

There is a lander shown which is based on the Apollo Mission's LEM. The Spin Habtation decks can be arranged in any order you like. The Spin Habs are based on 4.5 Meter decks as well as the lander.

The main forward section contains a labatory and large multi array Telescope (Round ball in center of the lab) for planetary survey.

The favor???
If there one over at Estranger that render space craft, I would like to see this one in 3-D.

Tanks...

I'm reading and listening.

Sometimes, those who read, don't have anything directly to say, and sometimes, since no question or query is posted by the current poster, most do not feel a need to reply (post). :)

I'd loved to see input on my designs because they are only one man's view of starship construction. Sometimes, I know I have a crap design so little suggest would make the design go from crap to useable by this community.

Question.

Since you have a habitat section that is crosswise to the thrust of the ship, do you have gravity control available in this design.

If you do, why are some sections at a different orientation than the majority of the ship?
If you do not have gravity control, then how so you maintain the feel of gravity in the different sections while under movement?

DaveChase:

The view is a planned 2-d drawing.

The ship is zero-gee except in the spin habatation (misspelled). I generally think of the command section (area forward of the spin hab) is akin to the International space station. The command section reflects that.

I've just posted the alternative bow sections for the Alpha and Voyager so they are in line with the drives.

I've just posted the Pathfinder Research Vessel based on the designs discussed in this thread. The spin habs can now lay back against the main frame of the vessel and the ship is powered by an atomic reactor. There is also a module containing the Jump Drive. The command section decks are in line with the point of acceleration. All the decks for the command section can be found in the art gallery under Alternative Bows for Alpha/Voyager in the Spacecraft section. Use the one marked Voyager. Spin hab decks are from the Voyager Class Research Vessel in Spacecraft.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm trying to show the logical progress of Modular Cargo vessels from the present day to the near future. I'm also trying to tie 2300 ships to Traveller considering they were also made by GDW...

Are you guys interested in this thread?
Or should I let it die an honorable death?

As stated by DaveChase (and possibly others), any designs and input are always interesting to read and pour over!

Being stuck in Gurps by my players, my Classic/High Guard/MegaTraveller design skills are down the tubes... so I feel my comments may be useless at this point...

Keep up the good work!

I say this all the time:

My designs are not Traveller designs, I use hyperspace generator and my ships only travel 1 light year per day. The only thing from Traveller I use is 1.5 by 1.5 by 3 meter squares and the tonnage rule from Classic Traveller.

I draw deckplans as a hobby. I do understand, people's needs for free starship deck plans. I just like to have input on these designs so they better suit the Traveller Universe, or even the GM's needs out there...

Alright people, Sometime in the next four days I plan on Posting the Baker Class Patrol ship using every scrape of what I've posted so far plus some new goodies as well. I need to ask the community three questions.

1: Should I make a collection of all my early design ships and put them in one post in the Coti Library?
2. I intend to HGS program to make data sheets for each on. The question here is what is a suitable tech level for these craft.
3. Which bow section should I use in the finalization process (The alternative or the originals I posted with the early designs), I'd like you guys to vote on that.
