Mongoose Posts Deck Plan PDFs

I'm kind of glad the new Scout plans are different than the original ones.

The CT version had a whole 2nd level that, presumably, was filled with data banks and such that were taken out when the vessel was issued to a detached scout. The overall impression was that this extra space could then be used for extra staterooms or cargo, which kind of bugged me.

This new plan doesn't leave that kind of ambiguity IMO.

Mine are up in the gallery. a different take entirely than Dan's... on the same floor plans!

It shpuld also be noted that Mongoose posted a preview of The Spinward Marches on the website. It lists the worlds of the five sisters subsecor along with the descriptions of two of the worlds. Uwp haven't changed from those in Supplement 3 although it looks like they added some new codes in the remarks section. these being Ga, Lt, & Ht. Don't know if these came from a later version of traveller or not (Mt, Ne, t4).

Those codes are (indirectly) listed in the main Mongoose book. They are:
Ga - Garden world
Lt - Low Technology
Ht - High Technology

Also, I am assuming the "I" in the Remarks column indicates the Imperial worlds.

Re the Type S, I was thinking of adding the (still) missing fuel volume as a thin skin across the top and/or bottom to soften the shape a bit, more like the T20 Scout.

The Corsair looks even more bizarre than it did before. If I had to keep that big-mouthed deep-ocean fish look, I would have gone to double high on the bay instead of really wide. The art looks like that was the case, actually.

The Lab Ship is still a visualization mess. Those decks need to be spaced around the ring, not stacked in one spot. Split the drives into a pair of two-deck pods at antipodes. The rest of each pod is fuel and passageway. Push the quarters deck to the antipode spot from the bridge/sensors, and hang the boat deck in the center of the (now larger) circle on several big fins with integral passageways (one of which is large enough to handle cargo). Moving the drive/fuel and quarters decks into the ring increases the diameter of the ring to about 45 meters (from about 30), which gives the boat deck a bit more clearance around it (since it is about 14 meters across).

Far Trader,

Wonderful representation of the mong scout.
I truly love your work, when you post them.

Maybe you can take on one of the other designs into your 3d workshop?

Aramis,

You did a great job also, not to forget you.
Did you do a representation with the cargo deck underneath?

Please keep up with the great work guys!

I bashed the hell out of Mongoose over the deckplan debacle. I'm glad to see a company "make good".

The pdfs are "messy". There're not as clear as I'd like them. But, I do have to send out a large kudos for fixing the problem.

So, Mongoose, if you're listening....KUDOS!

Thanks. There was a significant toing and froing with the artist in getting these right (probably a couple of extra attempts per deck plan, on average, but mostly small stuff).

I will say that if you do spot anything glaringly wrong with these please do not hesitate to let us know on our forums (but please be gentle - we are making a real effort to get it right here) and I can see about fixing anything that comes up and change what we have pretty easily now. The sooner you let us know the sooner I will be able to do something about it.

I can state these were not the favourite thing I have ever worked upon, counting thousands of tiny squares and adding up the totals is not my idea of fun...

And the old ships table at the end of the pdf should be a lot clearer now as well.

Beat ya to it ;)

But don't let that stop you, I'd like to see any other takes on it :)

I mean no offense to Aramis at all, but I really like your version better..it looks somewhat like the old type S but different as well..kind of like when they bring out a new model of a car :)

None taken. I was just showing that it's possible to make it reasonably streamlined as drawn, with full height decks.

Thanks for the kudos all. Yep, I was aiming for a Sulieman lineage visible in my take.

And that lower cargo deck does begger and bugger the streamlining. Very cool idea to flip it topside aramis. Solves a couple issues anyway :)

I'm not sure how much fuel tonnage (and armor don't forget) I've hidden in my take on it. Not a simple shape for doing volume (well, not simple enough, I could break it apart and check, but, meh :) ). I did a guesstimate and it came out within a couple tons. Close enough for what I was after. Seeing if it could be done at all.

The Air/Raft Bay by the way looks like it only has to drop down .75m to fit (more or less) when taken inboard 1.5m (and all the other stuff mentioned in the previous post) so it shouldn't intrude onto the lower deck (cargo hold). The Air/Raft Bay outer wall is only about 2.8m or so, but the inner is 3.6m, so overall it's probably a little more than 4tons. All close enough for me.

My hope is that they are going to start using the excellent Ryan Wolfe, his Future Armada series do very well on drivethrurpg and would certainly push the Mongoose quality up a few notches.

A few notches? How about a whole new playing field. :) Those are incredible, and I will definitely be looking to buy some. Thank you for pointing them out.

Here's hoping I don't break another thread frame :)

HOORAY! The shrinkage worked :D (I should go fix the earlier ones some time...)

Just a teaser mostly, my slightly updated SketchUp take on a quick and dirty 3D treatment of the new deckplans from Mongoose.

I started adding some "interest" and had to make some changes in the deckplans to make it fit, and when I started adding the interior realized I had been too fast and lazy when I did the quick hull and muffed the dimensions a bit. Forgot to include the allowance for hull thickness :nonono:

So I don't know when I'll feel like "fixing" it and finishing it. But I'll probably pick away at it and update it here when I do.

Mostly I wanted to see if I had the bridge viewport about right, and put some bodies in to make sure they didn't bang their heads on it. It was all coming out not badly, until I noticed the dimension error...

...oh well. Note one of the changes I made for my version makes the compy/sensors workstation part of the bridge (same place just removed the wall and ditched the separate door), you can just see it at the back to the right.
