Mongoose Traveller Moderation

ummm...Mgt hating AND Mongoose fanboys? how does that work?

I suppose some rabid d20 B5 fans might fit that description...if there were any

You could be a rabid fan of Paranoia and hate serious games like Traveller - both of which are produced by Mongoose.

From the original post, "*****" appears to have been a holder for any questionable descriptor (like "fanboy" or "hater") - neutral to which side of the debate one was on.

[Although recent 'discussions' might suggest that "moderator" could apply given your* recently well documented status as a cabal of ineffective, iron fisted, look the other way, MgT hating, Mongoose fanboys. :oo:] :)

*The collective 'you all' rather than personal 'you'.

It was simpler than that.
A littile while ago, there was a great outcry about how the COTI Moderators were heavy handed and we need some sort of checks and balances on their limitless power answerable to no one. Then they were accused of turning a blind eye to what was happening on the COTI Mongoose Topics because they secretly (or openly) hated Mongoose Traveller. Now that a moderator has steped up to announce that he will be keeping a close eye on the COTI Mongoose Traveller Topics, he is being questioned as being too Pro-Mongoose to be objective.

Based upon the number of words dedicated to each of the criticisms, they are clearly "Well Documented". So I just combined all of the "well documented" accusations to present the term "Moderator" as a possible substitute for all of the other objectionable descriptors.

[It was just a joke based upon the recent contradictory accusations leveled on COTI Moderators individually and as a group.]

Actually, these contradictory accusations are exactly what I would expect.

Awhile back, I noticed that certain unscrupulous pro-MGT individuals would draw the moderators into intervening in threads critical of MGT. They did this, by "throwing a tantrum" and accusing the MGT critics of being irrational, unreasonable, etc. And for awhile, it worked. It seemed that most reprimands were drawn by MGT critics, even though I found the fans to be every bit as obnoxious.

Then, things started to change. Maybe some moderators began to realize that they were being manipulated. Maybe some of these folks overreached. I dunno, but rather suddenly, MGT fans were unable to easily draw the moderators in. And when they did, the fans were being held accountable. In any case, folks seemed to recognize that both sides were guilty of obnoxious conduct and that it was pretty evenly distributed.

This, I suspect, caused the phenomenon you note. MGT critics accused you of pro-MGT bias when it seemed you were disproportionately reprimanding critics (and allowing comparable conduct among MGT fans to go unpunished).

Then MGT fans started to complain about anti-MGT bias when their tactics no longer worked.

Of course, this is just my opinion. And I hasten to add that I'm not accusing a majority -- or even a sizeable minority -- of MGT fans of acting like this. And at the end of the day, I think that most folks now recognize that both MGT fans and MGT critics could act obnoxiously and that the distribution was pretty even.

Ive got to say I'm looking forward to seeing how this censorship works out

The one dealing Ive had with moderators was very confusing .... I pointed out a post with very few differences (besides game system eg CT vs MgT) to a post that got someone banned and got an "thanks for bringing it to our attention .... we've looked at it but will not take action at this time" reply

Been a while since we got a new marshall in these wild territories, since then they've become down right civilized.

Well done, and thank you.

Not to take anything away from Colin, but it's not so much his appointment as Mongoose Marshall as it is a waning of interest in MGT.

I know I was keeping up with MGT in the hopes that a supplement, adventure, or some other book would spark my interest in the game. After the last couple of releases, my interest is pretty much dead.

I think others who found fault with Mongoose Traveller are feelig the same.

Much as it might be something you want to see, I fear you are very wrong in this idea. S4 does not equal the Traveller buying public.

You are also presuming that this place is the centre for Traveller discussion, which is something we have never pushed (for obvious reasons).

Take a trip to the official forums, you'll find plenty of people playing Traveller. . .

Matt, I fear I was misunderstood, but, in re-reading what I wrote, I can see how you came to the conclusion that you did.

The poster I was responding too commented on how the Mongoose section of these forms has "calmed down". My comment was to say that I think those that have taken issue with Mongoose Traveller, such as myself, have found their interest in the game lacking.

I wasn't speaking about people who like MGT.

Fair enough. Please keep in mind, valid criticism is fine. I haven't seen any need to intervene recently, and I would really like to keep it that way.

Mores the pity, but truthfully I did not expect a different outcome. Some of us are system agnostic, others are system biased and some are system partisans, but we are all Fellow Travellers.

I did think that you would have liked the Central Supply Catalog, but meh, I suppose it didn't measure up either.

No hard feelings S4, we just don't like the same kind of beer, but atleast we are beer drinkers after a fashion.
