MT2 sound issues

Blue Ghost

SOC-14 5K

I DL'd and installed MT2, but I can't get any sound. I know this thing was coded for DOS 3.0 or higher, but it seems like it should recognize my Soundblaster.

Any idears of how to fix?

Depending on your current OS and the game* it may either have a SNDCFG or similar program to run first (or in a setup program) and may require DOS or DOS emulation sound to be working. It's quite possible to have a sound card working in your OS (but not in DOS for example) so that the program is compatible with but not have the game itself "see" the card. DOS liked using direct access to soundcards. You may also want to check the settings for how the program is running in your OS, usually there are emulation options.

Thanks Casey. I'm thinking XP and Creative labs don't have DOS compatible drivers anymore, because I've gone through the sound configuration setup. But no dice.

I can't recall, but I think the game worked (sound and all) under Win95... I don't think I ever tried running it under Win98. Ah well.

I'll tinker with it some more.

I stumbled onto this thread and having read it, realized that in the past I've encountered these problems, esp. with newer PCs such as WinXP et al.

If the sound is not processed with these older DOS games, havoc is wrecked in the pacing of the game(s) as well.

There are a number of sound-card emulators- one that I found that was very easy to use is VDMSound, which you can link up with here:

VDMSound words very well with Megatraveller 2:)

Also, head to the VDMSound Forum which is linked to the above page, as the forum itself links to a variety of DOS and older sound-card emulators and offers help with troubleshooting all of your DOS game problems.

Enjoy:)
